I don't know, I can see Leela as someone who tried it once or twice. She was brewing in the orphanarium after all.

Yah, but he said that she took it to stay responsible. Sure, she may have tried it, growing up there. But to use it on a regular basis to stay 'responsible?'when she was 25? Nu-uh.

Being regular isn't in the Leela discussion. As far as doing any illegal drugs in the Futurama time frame goes, she would probably fall to the McFly syndrome. (What's the matter McFly, Chicken?!?) Leela tends to fear loosing her feminine-macho appearance.

What about in War is the H-word when Fry mistakes his tent for a tablet?

Well, it has been hinted that Leela may be something of a heavy drinker (started brewing her own at the orphanarium, loves the taste of a bold, Canadian beer early in the morning).  To me that would just add to her pathos.

As for doing illegal drugs - I don't see it with her; she's way too concerned about keeping her body in fantatic physical condition (although I wonder if she has done steroids - the videogame suggests that she has).

Fry may have experiemented in the 20th century, but that would be as far as he has gone (but he does get drunk with Bender way too often).

Hermes definitely likes to get high - Jamacians have other interest and that's why they got held at the airport during the Olympics.  And according tohis wife, he can't go anywhere without lighting something up.

Amy?  I don't see it with her.  Sure she's young and shallow, but she seems to be able to make her own fun without the aid of getting high.

The Professor.  Sure, the old goat probably sniffs glue and burning Rhesus monkeys to get the day started.

Scruffy.  You bet.  He probably does some poppers while he's thumbing through his porno mags.

I can see Scruffy doing drugs. We know almost nothing about him, but it stills seems in-character for him to be popping pills.

Gullible and naive though, e.g. Going to the back of cars for coffee.

I know I wouldn't be suprised if she had fallen victim to a date rape. (Grammer?)

Amy doesn't even like coffee.  (See "Put Your Head on My Shoulder".)  So obviously she knew what "coffee" meant, especially in a back seat, or on Valentine's Day.

That said, there's no evidence of Amy doing mind-altering drugs other than alcohol; ditto for Leela.  A lot of drinking goes on in _Futurama_, and not all of it by Bender and Fry.

That said again, who knows what kind of mind alteration is considered standard in the 31st century?  Advertisements occur in dreams, everybody feels the way Fry felt outside of the Discount Shoe Outlet -- "I just saw something incredibly cool: A big, floating ball that lit up with every color in the rainbow, plus some new ones that were so beautiful I fell to my knees and cried." -- and robots envision their own realities even when they're not "jacking on."

Frankly, I'm impressed that Fry has adapted so well to such a weird future without chemical dependence.  But then, he does have the support of a whole lot of friends.  And Zoidberg.

An interesting possibility, and one that had not occurred to me.
I'm not at all familiar with the video game: What in it leads you to infer this?

I for one have a hard time calling this 'drug abuse'.

While this seems in-character for Fry, in what episodes has he done this?

Huh?
“Poppers?”
I'm told Poppers are used almost exclusively among gay men.
Somehow, I don't believe a gay man would be reading "Zero-G Juggs."
Though, my humble knowledge of such things stems from a college "Human Sexuality" class and may therefore be dated...
Y'know, like Dr. Kinsey's findings...

"Leela: Wow, this are even better than steroids!"

In the game, Leela can gain strength by grabbing 'vitamins' as she races through the sewers of New New York.

Yes, thank you. I remember.
I didn't mention that one because it lacks detail. Besides, this is Fry. God only knows exactly what our favorite clueless redhead meant.

I'll be reading the links just as soon as I've posted this.
As I recall; first, n-amyl nitrite was popular, but was displaced by the (allegedly) less harmful butyl-nitrite.
As to it's use outside the homosexual population, I have no information.
*Pft!* I'm a fine one to know: I don't even drink any more!   :laff:
Now, I'm off to Wikipedia.

In the early episodes, Amy ripped through men like Kleenex in allergy season.   :p

The only other drug reference I can think of right now is the guy in "300 Big Boys" who changes his mind about going into a crack house and with his 300 bucks decides to go to a Crack Mansion instead. I think I remember them saying in the commentary they thought they were lucky to get that one past the censors.

What about when Lur steals Fry's nose to use as an aphrodisiac, and the aliens in the film, he's sniffing nose off her shoulder to get high.  :D

OK.  Now you've got me sparked up.  *Ahem.*  There are actual intoxicants, and then there are phony aphrodisiacs.  Also, his name is Lrrr.

Rhino horn is commonly thought, in some current Earth cultures, to be an aphrodisiac.  Rhinos are therefore poached nearly to extinction.  I have always assumed that is what the alien poachers are doing to humans.  (Though why "PROBE 1" is a useful vanity plate escapes me.  Heh.  Heh-heh. OK, I get it.)

Also, I have frequently wondered, as did Bender and Lrrr, why the nose horn (of the rhino or of Fry) was supposed to be the aphrodisiac, rather than the lower horn (of the rhino or of Fry.)  But _Futurama_ and Lrrr (and Bigfoot) have convinced me that poaching is wrong, and that Ndnd can be pleased in other ways.

And as a guy with a big lower horn (what have you heard?), I'm very glad about that.

Oh my, yes.
Leela’s quote from “TDtESS.”

Coming from someone whose idea of extravagance is buying underpants by the pair, not the pound, I hardly think her idea of hedonism actually fits the term.

I think it would not be out of character for Leela to get drunk.
Depending on the situation, it could be in-character for her to use, or have used steroids as Ralph suggests.
I could also see her using stimulants in some situations.

Beyond that... I don’t think so…
