Well, that's a bit big... But Ok. I'll be starting the poll at the end of the month. However, your pic here doesn't seem to be happy, in accordance with the creed of the 'Ship, so what exactly are you trying to pull?   ;)

Wow, TOTP just in time! Now that pic can stay without annoyingly enlarging the page! Whoo hoo! 31st TOTPD!

Thanks for the invitation, Xanfor. I accept heartily because I'm a big mushy gizmo. (I think it also helps to think Futurama is a great show.) Very few comedies, especially U.S. animated ones, have the depth in character development that this one has. Looking forward to participating in the discussion.

By the way, did you see the response I got from Hopeless Shipper on the thread you found me on? Wow. You were totally right. That got pretty heavy there for a minute.

Aww, Xanny, you know she's just a bit taken aback, sad, and angry all rolled into one...Plus it's nearly five times the original drawing's size now that it's scanned in.

It may be legit, or it may be bullshit.

That was one of my two sources that told me about the revival of Futurama.  One week later all hell broke loose with the announcement by Katie and John.  My other source continues to laugh at PEEL and PEEL'ers espcially the ones with the 'I have a bad feeling about this'.

The Leela/Fry arc finale will be one of the first eps made and will be held until the end of the series.  Groening wants the 4 DVD's and 30 episodes on CC to wind the stories up.  He has no desire to see Futurama become what The Simpsons has become - tired and wore out.  13 eps is the beginning with the option to make maore eps in 13 episode installments.

CC is said to be very gung-ho about getting the new eps and if the ratings are good enough, they will probably order the 30 eps that Groening wants over the 5 year period.

Some things we will see with the new eps:

Leela and Fry becoming almost inseperable as friends.  This will happen after the resolution of her being identified 'The other'.

Robot God.

The Space Pope.

The DVD's are a different story - even though the voice actors are to show up at RDS next week, only the basics of the first DVD have been finalized.  But one thing to be sure - there will be stuff for us 'lifeless shippers' to enjoy.

Ahh, finally, some more info regarding this. Yippie!

Another day of scouting for the hidden shippy stuff of PEEL... And I found a few shippish nugget-style chunklets.  ;)

And now, the shippy pic of the day!

What is Leela thinking right now? Any speculations?  ;)

Of course, the (shippy) quote! (Don't hurt me!)

Woohoo! Return of The Shippy Pic of the Day! Altough I have a hard time calling the new one a shippy pic, at that point Leela is still using Fry to run interference on Zapp.

Yes, but is she a shipper? (One must ask the tough questions.)

Well, she enjoys the shippy episodes but thinks I'm a bit silly for taking it seriously enough to write fanfic and get all worked up about it.  But then, her approach to most of her fandoms is more social (meeting other fans, doing newsletters and such) than thematic (getting all into the character and theme and psychological/mythological meaning of the text).

Oh, and remind me to have a fake ID made showing that I'm as old as the Professor...I never want to help anyone move EVER AGAIN.  Particularly someone who's a big a packrat as me (and I'm allergic to dust).  :nono:

@ Shiny:

My last move was July 2002.  If I ever move again, I'm going to burn everything I own and use the insurance money to buy new stuff.

People know not to ask me to help them move - that's stuff for the 20-somethings, not us people old enough for colonoscopies, blood pressure medication and pain killers.

I watched 'The Why Of Fry' toinght.  The fact that Leela realized that Chaz was a jerk and she was happy to see Fry spoke volumes about her viewpoint about men and their 'importance' maturing.

The main reason I picked that pic for yesterday was because I wanted you to look at Leela's face. Sure she's only kissing him to fool Zapp, but what is she thinking right now? Fry's eyes are closed in pleasure, while she stares at him. What is she thinking? Well, you never know, with the shippy pic of the day!

Leela waiting to hear the rest of the opera. (Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more!) Of course, for some strange reason, she's not wearing her gold ears. How can she hear? That problem certainly fixed itself up fast...

Ralph Snart:

The ending of "The Why of Fry" has often struck me as one of the most touching endings ever.

This starts with Fry's acceptance of the daisy from Nibbler, and his humble reply:

Fry: Whoa, thanks! If you ever need a savior again, just ask.

I mean, the guy saves the universe, and he's happy with being given a daisy?  Evidence number 24 for me of how Fry is one superb dude.  He's the universe's ultimate hero, and he's quite pleased to get a flower for his efforts.

Then, of course, Fry has to top himself.  Leela, quite disenchanted with the Mayor's Aide Chaz, says, after Fry gives her the daisy:

Leela: .... You know what, Fry? I don't care if you're not the most important person in the universe. It really makes me happy to see you right now.

And Fry responds with one of the sappiest, sweetest, humblest lines in Futurama.  No matter his (forgotten) heroic efforts.  Fry zeroes in on his real accomplishment -- he made Leela happy.

Fry: Then I am the most important person in the universe.

And when she kisses him, he utters one of the best lines ever.

Fry: (over credits) Yes!

I always repeat that "Yes!" when he says it.  All right, I'm a sap.  But he just so much deserves that kiss, after all he's done, in this episode and others, that it's great to see that Leela realizes that too.

Good point, I now choose to read it as, "Why is Fry enjoying this so much?"

Maybe the robot devil gave Leela her hearing back just because that's just the type of guy he is. He got his hands so why not?

That is also the logo of every fan of the series for the next 18 months.

I watched 'The Why Of Fry' toinght.  The fact that Leela realized that Chaz was a jerk and she was happy to see Fry spoke volumes about her viewpoint about men and their 'importance' maturing.
And raises another question in my pointed little head mind:

What happened?

Fry takes an impromptu time-trip, meets Nibbler in the past, and, among other things, Nibbler tells him that he’ll lend Fry what help he can regarding Leela.
This is of course a time paradox, but this is not my point.

Before Fry’s time-trip, Leela seemed... unconcerned, oblivious - dare I say, uncaring about Fry’s feelings/ attitude/ behavior, etc. towards her. Afterwards… she smootches him for his trouble.

Afterwards, She tells him that she’s really glad to see him.
Yes, I suppose this could be an after-effect of her date with Chaz turning sour; Yes, Fry spent his whole evening on the demeaning task of tending to her pet, and after doing so, is even considerate enough to bring her a flower.

In-between the before, and after, there was a time-trip. What happened as a result of the time-trip?
What changed as a result?
Did these changes result in Leela’s apparent change in attitude?

Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

Well, that is true, sorta. She isn't unconcerned, oblivious, or uncaring, she just dosen't want to feel the same way about Fry, so she chooses to ignore/shoot down Fry's advances.

The trip hasn't changed anything other than Fry's attitude. Leela hasn't yet been directly affected. Leela's change in attitude comes from the realisation that Chaz is an ass an Fry isn't.

Because the deafness wasn't organic.  The Robot Devil is too fiendish to leave such a ridiculously circuitous plan to chance...what if the noise didn't deafen Leela, or only made her deaf for a few minutes?  He sent tiny nanobots in to set up camp along the nerves that run from her ears to her brain, and send out an inteference pattern that blocked signals moving through them.  The presence of mechanical ears overpowered their tiny little transmitters, rendering them temporarily helpless (but only when the robot ears were in)...then, when RD had what he wanted, he deactivated them, negating the need for Calculon's antennae.  After Fry got booed, Leela, appalled at how she'd been used, ripped the ears off...and found out she could hear again.  Then she had the inspiration to ask Fry to play the end of his opera.

What, you missed that?

If you must know, mine!!  :D Sorry, forceful habit. I actually have two. The first one's got me in it too (woo!!! I hope to make a sequel!!) and the other's an unfinished Anthology. Close to done, but then again, not hardly. Xanfor's fanfics are great, but you gotta know what one to read first. That, or you can re-read Venus's holy fanfic. If there was a PEELie for the best fanfic, Venus would win it. SoylentOrange also has a few fics. Two non-holiday ones and an X-mas one. Those inspired me to give writing a try. And by writing I mean good writing. None of that school-approprite shit.

My #1 all time favorite is Dave Vincent's 'Background Noise'  Dave is one of my cyber-buddies and he says he's writing another chapter as I type.  (He has that pesky 'real life' crap going on.)

Just like the mods on this board, they donate their time to keep the TLZ running.  Teral, Kif, Grahman and Leandro have this pesky real life stuff diverting their attention from the board.

Last year when TLZ had to change servers a lot of things got corrupted and bugs reared their ugly heads.  I think the fan fic area has given them the most headaches - our own Teral can probably confirm that.
