From the little voices in my head.  ;) Since I'm settled in the aliencamp, it was a natural conclusion from "The Birdbot of Ice-catraz", that Cyclops and Humans are similar in outer appearence, but for the eye.

I kinda go with the Mutant camp here but alien is good too, just as long as the females of her species don't eat their mate after fertilization.
I'm pretty much settled in the aliencamp, but I could be proven wrong.

But if she DID turn out to be a mutant what do you think the collective reactions would be from both her and the crew?

I suspect the crew would treat her pretty much the same, but think she would be upset by the discovery.

Either way she is still cute

I agree with Tweek, regarding the PE crew. After an initial shock, they will settle down, and treat her pretty much the same. Fry will probably be the one least upset, since he is clearly one of the few people who is able to see past the whole eye-thing in the first place.

Leela, would ofcourse be quite upset by the discovery. After believing for decades that you're an alien, it must be a heavy blow to discover the truth. But I suspect the joy of finally finding her "species" will triumph, after a short while. After all, she would then know where she belongs, and possibly meet a few relatives.

Cute? [ URL]Oh, yeah[ /URL]

I do not think most of the crew would care either way the only real person this effects is Leela. I fthose mutants are her parents it will mean she can learn more about her past. Albeit that she would have to forgive them in the first place.

At the end of the day it don't stop her from being one foxy mama    :flirt:

Sudden thought: the one-eyed thingies in the sewers don't necessarily have to be mutants.  What if they're aliens, who came to Earth to try their luck and lost big?  Having lost everything, with no way to return to their homeworld, they decide to give Turonga a second chance by leaving her at the orphanarium and took to the sewers in search of the mysterious sewer mutants, who would accept them, no questions asked.  The reason that they didn't approach Leela was that although they recognized her as being from their race, perhaps they didn't recognize her as being their daughter and just didn't want to reveal the shame of having lost everything to another person of their race.

Wow, that took a lot shorter to write than it looks.

That's always a possibility, but that would still limit her practical isolation.

Good point Nixorbo.  :) Personally I too think that Leela finding out she is not what she thought she was would bother her more than anyone else.

At the end of the day what we postulate could all be ballony any way. It is the writers who will decide the outcome. Even out landish ideas could be used if they are smokin' ssomehting like she was a super soilder experiment gone wrong.

HomerJaySimpson, i read the first half of your script summary of Leela's Homeworld on the HipJoint. All i wanna know is, is this a feel good ep that will fill my insides with cocoa and warm fuzzies or will i be making with the tears?

Is making it with the tears a bad thing of something can create such a powerful emotion it can not be a bad thing, unless of course you are crying because they have for ever ruined her character.

no, im just your average chick who crys at anything thats even remotely sad. i saw Titanic at the theater 7 times and cried just as hard the 7th time as i did the 1st. I cried at a hallmark commercial once, besides i don't think being a mutant would hurt her charactor at all

About 65% of it is feel good. So the answer is yes.

If you rely on a Matt Groening cartoon for 'warm fuzzies', then I think you need professional help (in a jovial way, naturally).

Titanic did not get me mind you the haeting had broken in the cinema and it was the middle of winter. But even though I'm a bloke and genraly am to mucho to cry (even when I have a liquid emperor in my stomach) certain things make me well up inside like
City of Angels now thats a good film.

They've done that before, and still found ways to avoid the issue ("Bicyclops.." and "AOI II" ). I guess with a title like "Leela's Homeplanet" it pretty much restricts the possibilities of making a last-minute-twist.

I tend to agree with nasteve, solving this issue after only 3 seasons seems a bit quick.

But if it's going to happen, I think Nix' theory would be a nice middle road to take. Sort of gets the best of both worlds. She'll be alien, and related to the sewer-mutants from "I Second That Emotion".

yeah true she did say that, but she also said that she didn't believe in mutants so it never would have occured to her to think that she might be one.

Probably a mutant... from mars.  Fry was pretty insistant that Leela was from mars in the pilot script; not that it matters.

I just think it would be funny; being both a human and an alien.  Her ancestors went to mars; developed one eye (how did there end up being two cyclops anyway?  Incest?).  Came back; they weren't accepted; had Leela sometime around there.

Personally I would rather have some finalization now, seeing as the fate of the series is up in the air.  If it was guaranteed to keep going, then I would much rather they keep her an alien and drop hints that she is a mutant, or is actually an alien.

In the episode where bender flushes Nibbler down the toilet, there is another one eyed mutant in the sewers.
Either way mutant or not, she looked freaky with two eyes. I lurve her with just the one.

So it was in the script but not in the pilot?

I don't know...this 'finalization' might be worse than you or I might imagine.  The uncovering of Leela's past seems like the final finalization.  With the series up in the air, it might be a sign of weakness to the buzzards who seem to be running Fox.

Probably already been mentioned:

I think maybe her parents were aliens, who ran into the sewers to escape the cyclops-hating people of New New York. Looking vaguley human, their image didn't really matter to the mutants, but not wanting Leela to grow up in her own filth, they orphanariumed her, in the hope that she could earn the repsect, and the love of her fellow New New Yorkers.

Probably a load of crap.

Aaaaah, hell. she's a mutant. A sexxy mutant.
