He always wanted everything normal. Normal Flowers, Toned down shirt, Two Eyes, Two ears..
There's probably more...
Could this be the route to being a neutral?

No he's just someone who was completely average and wanted everyone else to be average too. I'm sure had Leela stayed with him he'd of made her dye her hair an average color too.

Actually, this is a somewhat intriguing idea.  It has nothing to do with the writer's intentions, and is merely pointing out a coincidence, but it's an interesting point.

I think he was born with a heart full of Neutrality, myself.

Yeah, I think being a Neutral is both a race and a state of mind, like being Jewish. You can be Jewish by ethnic background, or purely by religion, like Sammy Davis Jr.
