What's with Leela's name?

So, her name is Turanga Leela, right?

What is Turanga? Is that a first name? I always figured that because Zoidberg, Fry, and (possibly) Bender are referred to by their last names, Leela is too.  But her parents and her parents' friends also call her Leela.  I know I wouldn't call my daughter Dolnikov, and if I had a friend Bob Smith, I wouldn't say, "Hey, Bob, how's your daughter, Smith, doing?"

Turanga is her family name.  Leela is her given name.

Leela's name is like a regular human's name, only switched around.

[ex.] The name Bob Smith, if considered in Leela's family's name, would be Smith Bob.

Basically, her first name would be considered her last name in our world, and her last name would be considered her first name in our world.

In addition to the note written in alienese, she was wearing a name tag that read, "Hello, my name is Turanga Leela."

Her parents are named Turanga Morris and Turanga Munda.

When I´ve been on such related thread last time,I ´ve made a strong hate post and was for addict for other members of board so now I must be in complete peace... I think it should have been annonced much more cearly, now are many people confused.
Anyway, I´am still curious if it was really planned from the start.
