Of course people are going to want Futurama animated.  I for one would like to see it either way.  Just as long as it's Futurama, that's all that matters.  In a live-action Futurama movie, here's who should play who:

Fry:  Seth Green
Leela:  Jennifer Garner
Prof. Farnsworth:  John Lithgow
Hermes: Bernie Mac
Bender: voiced by John Goodman
Amy Wong: Ziyi Zhang
Dr. Zoidberg: Dustin Hoffman
LaBarbara: Halle Berry
Zapp Branigan: William Shanter
Kiff:  Jake Gylenhall

Any thoughts on who can play Scruffy?

Someone else mentioned it before, and I must agree..
No one can play Scruffy but Sean Connery.

Billy Bob Thornton with be a close second, and more likely to accept the role. In the movie, "Sling Blade", he played Karl Childers and he sounded an awful lot like Scruffy.

Yes, but Billy Bob Thornton sucks, whereas Sean Connery is quite possibly the greatest actor who ever lived.

I'm not saying that Billy Bob Thornton is a better actor than Sean Connery. Sean Connery as Scruffy, would be cool, but I see Billy Bob Thornton pulling off the voice.

No, Billy Bob sucks.  He shouldn't even be allowed to watch Futurama, let alone be in it.  It's bad enough that he was in Princess Mononoke.  Stop trying to ruin Futurama.

I'm not trying to ruin Futurama and Billy Bob was funny in Bad Santa and Lauren Tom herself was in that movie, too.

Hey, I'm trying to make a point here!  It doesn't work if you make the wrong choice!

Oh, well.  Take your Connery and go, then.  I mean, I got nothing against the guy, I just think you're being to hard on Billy Bob...

And I just think he sucks.

Venus is right, though.  Live-action Futurama would suck anyway, so go ahead and cast Billy Bob as Scruffy if you want.  While you're at it, go ahead and cast Carrot Top as Fry and Jennifer Lopez as Leela.

Still though.. With the right makeup, then, Emeril could play Elzar..

Interesting many people feel that Seth Green would make a good Fry.  Wasn't Green in the movie, Idle Hands?  A movie about a guy with the devil's hands?  Talk about coincidence.

I think Ashton Kutcher as Fry would be dead on. His character on "That 70's show" is a lot like fry.

I can't believe how many people in here voted Lucy Liu to be Amy.  She can't be Amy cos she's Lucy Liu bot!!! She can play Lucy Liu Bot  ;)

Here is my choice of cast
1. Fry = Tobey Mc guire or Ben Affleck
2. Leela = Jennifer Lopez or Angelina Jolie
3. Farnsworth = John Malconvich ( sorry I can't spell his name)  :D
4. Bender, using multimedia to insert a computerized 3D him into the movie with Antonio Banderas doing his voice
5. Amy = Ming-Na Wen or Zhang Zi yi
6. Zoidberg = same method as Bender, with  Mike Myers's voice
7. Mum = Glenn Close
8. Kiff = same as Bender and Zoidberg,Ben Stiller as his voice
9. Zapp = Owen Wilson

They probably just couldn't think of any other Chinese actresses.  It's similar to why a lot of people pick rappers to play Hermes: they can't think of any good black actors, so they just name anyone who happens to be the right color.

No offense, but why wouldn't you just have the voice actors from the show do the voices?

If this movie was to have Sal in it, John Dimaggio, as himself, would be PERFECT.  First, he's did his voice, sos the s's wouldn'ts bes a problems.  Second, he more or less has the physical proportions of Sal.  Dress him up right and let some stubble grow, and it would work.

Yes you are rite, I suppose for the movie they could just get the original cast to do the voices.

It's just that usually in the movie. To make the movie a block buster I find Hollywood directors like to choose block buster actors to do the voices.

Like a lot of the Disney cartoons if I am not mistaken for the movie version the people who does the back ground actors are mostly block buster actors. But for the series version it doesn't seem like the voices are done by the same person, if I didn't remember wrong that is.

So basically wot I am trying to say is when I think of movie, I think of well known block buster movie stars. That's probably why I suggested those people instead of the original TV crew.   :D

Ooh...I just had another brainstorm.  For the part of Randy, simply use Carson Kressley (the blonde guy from "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy".  I've not actually watched an entire episode of this show, but from what I've seen, he'd be perfect as Randy.  Hell, he IS Randy.

Like hell some block buster actor would do some little ABC Saturday morning cartoon show!   :p  It's just that the budget's not big enough on those shows to hire those big-timers.

As for relevance now, I'll say that I'm not too keen on seeing Futurama live action, but Sir Ian McKellan should be Farnsworth, damnit!

Say, would Zoidberg need to be CGI!  I was thinking that most of his features (his claw hands/claw feet, and head) could be done fairly easily with prostetics (sp?).  As for the mouth tendrils, they could probably be just tubes of latex face appliance, with some small anamatronics for whenever they need to move voluntarily (this might not work for Zoidberg eating, though).

No, we are talking about turning futurama into a movie, not turning it from cartoon on TV to Series of real actors on ABC Saturday morning TV show in your country.

About your choice of who should be Farnsworth it's a question of opinion. You have your opinion, and I have mine.

Hahaha, just kidding. But that was a truly evil thing you just said.

I meant for a McKellan for a movie, of course. Like hell he'd show up on ABC.  :p

Does anyone else think that Billy West could/should be a token castmember for a live action film and be Farnsworth? It's one of the more prominent characters he does, and oddly it's the one he even remotely resembles despite how he's essentially Fry.

And for LaBarbra I think that Gina Torres of Firefly and Alias sort of resembles the character even if she might not have an accent.

Plus since I jsut saw him, does anyone else thing Jude Law is slightly Brannigan-ish? He's blonde, can look pompous, and it would be vaguely similar to his Sky Captain role.

Billy West in old-guy make-up would make a great Professor Farnsworth.  Actually, if you could somehow go back in time to when Billy was Fry's age, he'd make a pretty good Fry.

Also, Lauren Tom when she was a teenager would be a perfect Amy, and Phil Hartman when he was still alive would be a perfect Zapp.
