I always hoped ITWGY would get them together, and the series could pick up with them dating. Fry Chasing her could be replaced with Fry Keeping her, with plenty of room for new exciting adventures along the way! Bender mad at Leela for taking Fry's time, lots of good stuff.
I imagine that will probably be the case...or at least something along those lines. It'll help keep the series fresh if it does indeed make a comeback. I've never agreed with the opinion that the show would suck if they got together, it'd be a bit different of course but I'd trust the writers to do a good job of it. The Fry chasing Leela storyline has been handled well and added some genuinely touching moments to an already excellent show but they can't keep it up forever and it's becoming apparent that there's not much left for them to explore in that regard...might as well tie it up and move onto something else.

That's it, I'm making my own "Fry dating Leela" church, it will be exactly the same as yours, except for one really tiny grammar correction, the result of which will be my church hating yours with a fiery unbridled passion!
HERETIC!!!

What show indeed? Does the fact that he wrote an opera about her indicate that he had moved on? No, quite to the contrary, it was just another attempt to prove his love for her. And as far as the movies go, they completely ignored the presumed aftermath of The Devil's hands are Idle Playthings, and completely destroyed the character development of the series, and basically started over again. The movies took two characters who seemed destined to be together in the main series, if they could just work out their personal differences into a pair of neurotic shells of the people they once were. The only reason it was brought back was because the fans bought so many copies of the DVD box sets, and look what David X. Cohen and company have done, they have made the movies they wanted to see done, not what the fans wanted, and a lot of the "hardcore" fans of the series don't like it. Some try and console themselves by saying well any futurama even bad futurama is better than most of what is available, but that idea is rubbish.

I disagree with people who say that Leela rejects Fry just because he's a dumbass. The evidence isn't strong enough for that. I think it's a combination of many things. It's just my theory, but I think that one overlooked reason that Leela keeps rejecting Fry is that since all the guys she's been with turned out to be jerks, and she was infatuated with every one of them before they showed their true colors, it stands to reason that the idea she has in her mind of "Mr. Right" must be....a jerk. After all, she thought that all the jerks were the right one for her in the beginning too. And Fry is the polar opposite of them all, which means that Fry is the opposite of what she's looking for. BTW, This does not bode well for Leela, she can't keep getting lucky and falling for jerks with no backbone who she can just dump without repercussions. It's a very realistic problem.
Also, I think they complimented each other perfectly in the parallel universe. I absolutely agree with Chug a Bug, if Leela wore the pants in the relationship, it would work fine, as it would be pretty close to their current relationship, which is very sweet and not nearly as one-sided as it was in season 1, unrequited love aside. It's been shown that Leela now needs Fry as much as he needs her. However, Leela turns from tough, assertive, reponsible woman to simpering, blind idiot whenever she falls for someone (case in point, Chaz the utter jackass of a mayor's aide, her dumbest choice ever.)
Yeah...just my opinion.
