While Fry stands as the most important person in the universe, obviously he is nowhere close to being the smartest.  Such said, he's not as dumb as he acts either; still living like a bachelor and spontaneously, for certain (many), and hanging around Bender doesn't help him in this aspect.  Over the years, though, he has shown that he is willing to learn and improve himself (2x19, 3x14 and newer).  Also, it's apparent he's more left brained than right from his feel for art and creativity from within (1x02, 3x02, 4x18), which really touches Leela.  Above all, he has shown on more than one occasion of helping and protecting Leela before himself (1x02, 2x04, 2x09, 4x03, 4x10, 4x12); he would give up his life, just to protect her's.

I don't see Leela as "high maintenance" either - her life is pretty basic, really, as you can tell from her apartment (3x02).  Being serious almost all the time is the antithesis of Fry (many), which creates the biggest friction between the two.  Although the slightest action from a date could make her happy, she still has high expectations of their personalities, and that they need to care how she feels too (1x04, 2x09, 3x09, 4x10).

Together, I truly feel they would manage everything out.  In her desires, she wants someone smarter, more organized in life than Fry, but deep down, she also knows that he truly cares for her in ways that no one else has.  As often as Leela denies it, and as desperate as Fry gets (in Universe-A), ultimately, they will do fine for each other (ala Universe-1, 4x15).

Foxxy Gurl, I totally agree with your sentiments, but if you could, please edit your post above and put some "enters" in the exclamations....the loooong line stretches out the whole page, and makes it very hard to read Narfcake's detailed and interesting post above (as well as any that may be posted below, including this one in a moment).

Thanks!

And, a big "what he said!" in reference to Narfcake's post. Even if it was posted a year ago or more.  :)

High Maintenance??? She lives in an unfurnished shoebox apartment without a window, and as for being hip,
shes not exactly the coolest person in the year 3000: 1 eye, tank top and boots? although its hard to imagine her in a different default wardrobe, its not exactly the most flattering attire.
And as for Fry not willing to change? Pfft, he had his hands chopped off, and became and opera musician just for her.
Not to mention parasites lost. He could of kept the worms and his life would of been much better for it(i'm talking about in general, not about him getting together with leela), but he sacrificed Intelligence, Strength and perfect Health.

^to see who Leela loved^

i just think they deserve to be together properly at some point in the show....Leela loves Fry, but doesn't want to admit it. Fry loves Leela, and tries desperately to show her that he loves her, but she just brushes it off. Or doesn't see it at all (i.e time keeps on slipping)

I guess Fry and Leela would make a pretty good couple. Fry adores her, and she is intelligent enough to make up for his blunders. Besides, practically every other male dating Leela so far only wanted her for selfish reasons, which Fry would not do. Obviously their relationship worked in the parallel universe (Universe 1), so why should it not work in Universe A as well (diamond scrunchie or not)?

I don't think the high maintenance argument was meant about her lifestyle I think it was meant about the fact that as you say she has high expectations that would be difficult to live up to, or at least thats how I read it.

No what kind of dummass question is that he's a human and she's a mutant the two don't go together. He should stick with amy at least she's a human right and Kiff should date Leela cause her DNA ends up on him anyways in Season 5.

Whatever, Kagome. IT WAS ONE EPISODE WITH LEELA/KIF! There's like five or six episodes of FRY/LEELA!

Plus, Fry said he didn't feel "that way" about Amy. And screw PYHOMS, becuse he changed their relationship. So far, it looks like he's going for Leela the rest of the seasons.

Open your eyes.

I think Fry and Leela both smell like dead animals together. Fry is too pathetically hopeless and Leela's too much of a stubborn heartless bitch. They really are too different. Introducing love tension between them was probably the downfall of the show...

Hmm...considering that the Unresolved Romantic Tension arguably started in the pilot, that's unfortunate.

The problem you're referring to, Lamps, is one I think stems from the writers' desire not to give their relationship any sort of definition - resolution of URT is often the downfall of a show, and the writers spun out the plot arc a little thin by the end of season four while avoiding a conclusion.

All I can say is that I don't remember Leela ever flatly refuse Fry.

She does make a lot of excuses... Maybe she's keeping her options open...

I don't like these threads anymore because I think that debating whether or not that two cartoon characters are a good couple or not is making the whole thought of the show which is just imagination and changing it into a reality-based thing. In reality, there are couple who seem completely different for each other but are together none the less. And also they never really even hooked up in the first place. No one knows what happened after the end of Devil's Hands. Anything is possible.

Leela simultaneously likes and dislikes Fry:
She likes his boyish charm, and he can be incredibly sweet.
On the otherhand she hates his immaturity, and hygine... or the lack of it.
Just for example; there are a boatload more.

Leela doesn't seem to think Fry's a bad kind'a guy, so she doesn't want to hurt him, but he just isn't what she's looking for in a man, so she declines his invitations to spend 'time away from work' together.

At least, that's my take on it.  :hmpf:

Fry may well see that as her encouraging him (and all that implies).
That's the last thing Leela wants to do.

I could draw/write poems/letters to xyz (by which I mean Carolyn!  :D) because I really wanted us to be an item - wouldn't make it happen! Her rejection wouldn't make her soulless either - you can't make someone love you.

That said, I do think that all things being equal, Leela and Fry would be a great couple as Fry slowly matures a little and Leela lets her guard-against-being-hurt down a little  :)

Well, that or she hooks up with Amy. As long as I get to be the photographer/draw-er of it all, I'm really quite happy either way!
