Stupification ray-affected characters don't count. Personially, I chose Fry's Parents cause they didn't see their own son in the cryogenic tube!

All the characters you put up there are pretty stupid in their own right. However, you have to remember that Fry's parents were sick from eating bad bologna at the time of the cryogenic tube incident and it probably clouded their judgement(and ability to fully open their eyes). Just because I'm still bitter about the neutral humor incident, I'll go with Zapp. He actually pissed me off with that stuff.

Just looking at all the scenes that Ignar is in, I can't really find any time when he did anything remotely smart. I thinkj that his IQ is probobly the lowest of any of them.

My votes still for 'Why are Zoidberg's eyes blue'. Cause obviously that has to have some kind of significant meaning.

Who is Ignar? Sorry I have not seen all the episodes, France digital channel has not finished showing futurama, plus due to technical problem I wasn't able to receive my TPS digital channel (the channel that shows futurama in France) for 6 weeks.  I will need to wait for the re-runs.

Ignar is Mom's son. The one with the pinkish-purple hair. I'd definately have to say he's the stupidest, as well.

Ignar isn't stupid, he just acts like a baby. But he is kinda dumb in the sense that he's a 20- something man acting like he just came out of Day-care.He's funny in a strange way though.

I vote for fry. Who sleeps with his own grandmother?  :nono: Also the big brain took over the world episode, he is the only one who was not affected cos he has low intelligence.

Not quite.  I hate to nitp- ah, who am I kidding, I love to nitpick - but Fry's stupidity and his non-affectedness are both effects of his lcak of a delta brainwave...which in turn was caused by sleeping with his grandmother.  So in the end, his stupidity all worked out for the best.

Hm... Fry's parents sort of bothered me... It makes sense he would be so screwed up.

I mean his dad makes statements like (as or similar to but probably not accurate), "The Y2K computers got him. We'll face burning roads, exploding rivers, and calculators turned heat-seeking missiles." or "you calling my son Commie?!"
His mother's not exactly stupid but a bit negligent...

Oh and Ignar is stupid, but I think that those brains are a close second. "We're an ambitious young squad with everything to prove!" Yet they also can't figure out to hover over a chain link fence...

You're wrong. According to Bill Morrison (who among other things answers letters for Bongo Comics) Fry's ignorance ISN'T caused by lack of the Delta Brain Wave.

Well according to the episodes The Day the Earth Stood Stupid and The Why of Fry, that is the cause as well as the reason for his immunity against the Brains. I'll take the show's continuity over someone working for Bongo comics. That's all I have to say on the matter though.

Plus they even stated that trees generated the Delta Wave. At least on the show, it means that even trees are smarter than Fry. That seems like going out of their way to explain that Fry's an idiot to me.

No, for once Pannozzi has a point.  It's entirely possible that Fry's "intellect" is unaffected by the fact that his EEG looks like Leela's prom dress.  I think it's highly unlikely that they're unrelated though.  I'm pretty sure that's menat to be part of the situational irony ("because Fry is stupid, he becomes the smartest person on Earth for awhile."  But since I think the writers just made up the "delta" brainwave*, we'll probably never know.

*That is, I've only ever heard of alpha, beta, and maybe gamma brainwaves.  I could be wrong, though.

And a further footnote, yes that is a legitimate example of irony, according to every lit class I've ever been in.

There IS a delta wave. Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta. The four basic ones. Interestingly, the delta wave does have little to do with intelligence. Delta is seen only in the deep stages of Sleep. Beta is what you see during heavy concentration.

Yet, if we think of these waves as gears of a car, we need them all. Obviously, too little sleep and much concentration will impair the thinking process.

So realistically, Fry is a light sleeper because he has no Delta wave, and yet this is the state in which you are most likely to dream.  ;) Also, no one's intelligence should have been so drastically impaired. That would be the beta wave. Of course, we have no way of knowing how Fry has compensated for the lack of the delta wave and one of the others may be interfering with the beta wave.

Science fiction at its best :D

Fry's probably just dim because of the inbreeding. Yancy Jr. was lucky.

Maybe his theta waves works in certain situations to substitute for delta waves.

But on the list, I don't think he's the dumbest. I'll figure out who it is in the morning.

BTW, great link, Allen.

Hm... I just remembered the show that introduced Mom to the series, and now I'm not sure who's the stupidiest character... Like Fry was stupid, but for the most part it was after he was drugged. All of Mom's sons thought that they would actually be convincing however with their plot, and Bender for some reason had stolen that green sweater when he could just as easily have tossed stuff into his chest...

But Zapp was smart enough to know he couldn't win Leela's heart, so he realized he had to cheat to get to her pants.  That's not book-smart, but it's manipulative.  It takes a certain type of smarts to know when to manipulate and when to use your strengths.

I voted for Ignar.

i voted for zapp. ive seen numerous occasions when he portrays he stupidity. zapp usually displays either two sides to him. one - his sex crazed side; mainly towards leela and other women. and two - his stupidity and arrogant comments which are usually out of stupidity.

i love the guy but damn. control your hormones and read a book, for crying out loud. OH MY GAAAAD!!!

The Stupidest Person is Me, nah just kidding, it's Zoidberg, I mean C'Mon he sold his stocks for a sandwich, then didn't refridgerate that sandwich.  And he let's everyone pick on him, if he wanted to, he could cut Hermes' jugular with his claw.  Plus when he found his own shell in the dumpster he threw it in, he thought it was a different one.  I think I made my point.

On a side note, i've seen every episode of Futurama 5 times each, and I didn't know who Idgar was.  He's just not a memerable character.

He may have been in denial; who wants to admit that they have thrown away clothes, and then picked them back up out of the garbage?

Igner does seem rather intellectually bankrupt, so I'm voting for him.

I say fry, Ignar never really gets a chance to prove his intellegence (he hasnt really been in the show that many times) and I think his behaviour is more due to the fact he lives in a constant state of fear (cause slaps hurt) while fry get to show his stupidity day in and day out.

Who is the stupidest?  Igner (Ignar?) is technically not the stupidest.  I mean, just think about it.  If your mother was an elderly dominatrix, you never even knew your father, and your older brother Walt constantly slapped you and Larry at every remark you said... wouldn't you act the same way he does?

Fry's parents aren't stupid... just ignorant.  Or in Fry's father's case, paranoid.  Paranoia doesn't exactly follow the same road as stupidity.

As for Zoidberg, Zoidy IS intelligent!  On his planet, that is.  Everyone on his planet sort of has the same intelligence, or that's what I'm guessing.  Didn't they even say that Zoidy was more intelligent than most Decapodians in the commentary for AOI 1?  *shrug*

Zapp's not stupid, either.  He'd rather be having sex than attending to his captaining duties.  *stops talking for fear of becoming the Zapp Lover again*

So... I hate to say this, Fry fans, but Fry is technically the stupidest.  His lack of the Delta Brain Wave and that damage he did to his brain in PL made him that way.  But never fear... I can tell he is a genius at heart (and he probably could have been!)

My vote goes to Ignar. Fry has his smart moments, and Zapp did manage to get to a high ranks in the fleet, which counts for something.
Amy isn't stupid, so is Zoidberg who is just lovabely annoying.
I think missing the obvious doesn't necessarily says you're stupid... so... we're left with Ignar.

Well, Fry has glimmering notions of intelligence... sometimes. Fry's parents aren't really dumb, they're just oblivious and unobservant. Amy knows what she's doing (remember her helping Professie repair Flexo?). Zapp is pretty incompetant, and so is Zoidberg, but that doesn't mean they're unintelligent. So, Ignar defintely takes the cake.
"For this demonstration, we've placed one of mother's bras on Ignar." [Ignar sobs]
