I don't like it when the writers have Zoidberg act like Homer in 'ultra silly mode'. Otherwise, I love his character.

I like Zoidy best when he's only in the backgroud, being abused by the others. Episodes where Zoidy is the main character is not that good. ("Why Must I Be A Crustacean in Love", "That's Lobstertainment!" )

What are you talking about, Tor? "Why Must I be a Crustacean in Love" was a great episode. But, yes, Zoidberg is best in supporting the others. When he does that however he tends to steal the entire scene. As long as they keep him "alien", rather than just stupid he is the best character of 'em all (besides Kif and Leela  love ofcourse).

Yep. So long as they keep him strange and outlandish, not just stupid, Zoidberg will be the Flaming Star of Earth's Army... Ah, sorry. He'll continue to be hilarious. I just don't like it when they do something idiotic like make him spray ink for no reason. I mean, how can you not love the lobster? He adds so much by being the strange creature he is.

The funny parts with DR. Z is that we always get to know something new about him. Like when you see him without his shell or when he comes out of the bathroom and pulls up the zipper on the top of his shirt.

Zoidy is a really good character but I prefer it when he's not the main focus on an episode.

Zoidberg must be taken in small amounts before he becomes pathetic. But Tor got it right. Its best when something bad happens to him and his reaction. The best example of this is his pet Slinky, and he thinks its fixed, but it falls over and catches on fire.

"Love"...? I like and pity him - he doesn't get to eat on a regular basis, has no sex life, no money, he has B.O. and I don't know who voices the penniless lobster-doctor but when Z. lets out with a wail ("DAT'S comin' outta yore pay !&quot wink you can feel his pain.

Hermes has the least one-liners. Mostly rasta-gibberish stuff. Zoidberg on the other hand plays a definite role, the role of an outcast that just want to be part of the crowd. And plus I love it when he uses this line:

"And the crowd goes wild!" *imitates crowd roar*

in the most inappropriate of situations.

I think a lot of credit has to go to Billy West's delivery. That pseudo-Yiddish accent he uses makes Zoidbergs lines twice as funny.

I think he is a great character.  He started out a little boring, but then he became odd and quirky and he improved, he they started protraying him as a pathetic fool and he got even better!  big grin  He can get excessivly silly at times, but he's still funny.

I gotta agree with Kryten too, th deliver of his lines make them perfect.

As long as the writers doesn't overemphasizes his patheticness, he's one of the funniest characters. He can even threaten the Kif/Zapper interaction as an episode highlight. He's alienness and his (almost) complete ignorance of human anatomy (although it is his specialty) is the characters strenghts. "Why Must I be a Crustacean in Love" was hillarious, mainly because of the alien behaviour of Dr.Z.

"I choose my own claws. I want the tactile pleasure of chopping him right here: in the gonads!" (points at Fry's neck) How can you not love a guy, who delivers a line like that?  big grin

You can really tell when different writers work on Zoidy. I mean, I feel pissed off every time I see that episode where he sprays ink 3 times.  And in I Dated a Robot he was mildly funny, but lines like "And Everything was good forever!" Make me want to smack the guy responsible.
