A lot of people didn't like Beck as a guest star..anywho, welcome to PEEL  :) You might find this useful. Also, don't be offended if this thread is closed soon, there is already a thread for guest stars here. Enjoy your time at PEEL  ;)

I find it hard to believe Beck mada an appearance on an animated sitcom when he was smack-dab in the middle of composing the musicaly astounding but incredibly depressing "Sea Change" album.  Can't keep a good artist down.

Well, the episode was probably recorded in 2000, in order to hype up the Midnite Vultures cd. That's where most of his in-episode songs came from.  Sea Change didn't come out until 2003, right?  That's plenty of time for Beck to get his heart broken and record it.

It's weird that the episode billed him as a folk singer yet the songs he played in the episode were Sexx Laws and Where It's At, two of his least folky songs.

@Evan:  Ohhh, yeah.

@Fuzzywuvems:  Not Folky!?  Are you mad?  Sexx Laws has a banjo solo in it for crying out loud.  I know that Where it's at is pure junyard funk hip-hop, and neither is as folky as, like, Pay no mind or Fuckin' with my head (mountain dew rock) but come on, BANJO!

You know, since you posted those two pictures right near each other, I'd like to note that the artists of Futurama did a great job of capturing his likeness into the show.

I didn't really like Beck as a guest voice, myself.  But the plot to the episode BITW more than made up for it!

I would've liked to see The Smashing Pumpkins or Korn make a guest appearance!  After all The Pumpkins _did_ make an appearance on The Simpsons.  So why not Futurama?

A lot of people have made guest appearances on the Simpsons.  That doesn't mean they need to make guest appearances on Futurama.  That's not to say that I don't like Smashing Pumpkins or Korn, I think they're both great bands.  Another point to make is that the people that write Futurama have certain tastes too, and folk singers who reinvent genres as they create them happen to be theirs I guess, so they asked Beck onto the show.

Also I do have to say that most if not all the guest appearances on Futurama have been dealt with in a well written manner, that is to say they weren't just thrown in there like a few Simpsons episodes we could name.

It also has James Brown style horns and a funky beat that you can bug out to (spot the Beastie Boys reference) which is pretty much as far away from folk as you can get. Anyway, isn't banjo more of a country and western thing?

Actually, I thought Beck was one of the best guest stars ever on Futurama! Before the show I had never even heard of him before. His appearance in Bending in the Wind inspired me. Now he is one of my favorite musicians!   :D

I haven't actually seen that episode yet, and I hadn't heard of him before I saw this thread, so I have no idea who he is.
