There have been several discussions, it seems on why Leela has not started or has a relationship with Fry.  This thread is about why Fry has fallen so in love with Leela.  Fry for the most part does not take relationships seriously and in general has a short attention span.  Leela he has focused contiously on for a long time.  So why do you think he has changed so much in other words matured him?  What is it about Leela or is love something that can't be explained?

Are you gay? No I'm kidding. But this is because all those other times Fry wasn't really "in" love with the women. Leela, he has known for a while and he likes her. Basically he grew into love for Leela.

I agree with Spacedal11,Fry wasn't really in LOVE with a girl, that is until he meet and got to know Leela. But love does make fools out of everyone...

But why do you think Fry loves Leela so much?  She is very different form the girls he has dated and has committed much more time to developing this relationship and just won't give up.

All I can say is it's unknown. He just does. I don't have a reason but that's what I think.

Leela was the first person Fry met in the future, and she was kind to him.  She helped him to adjust to life in the future and to find his place in it.  Fry and Leela have a lot in common, both being orphans (sort of), and he relates to her because of this.  There's also the simple fact that Fry and Leela are friends who spend a lot of time together, and she's an attractive woman.  Why wouldn't Fry be in love with her?

Fry's like one of those baby birds. If the radiator woman had been the first thing he met, he would've fallen in love with it. Now that would be a show!

don't get the British person joke.  When it comes to love, who can say why people fall in love?  there is no solid reson which is why dating shows are pointless.

I think Fry has fallen in love with Leela cos she doesn't give him a chance. Men like to chase women he can't easily have. Also s

Um I pressed the wrong button so... I want to add that moreover, Leela is the one who always takes care of him when he gets in trouble.  He thinks she is kind.  She is his heroine.

Mint, there is an edit button for you to use if you accidentally send early.  But you are forgiven.

On topic, I think Fry explains why he's so in love with Leela pretty well in "The Cyberhouse Rules".  She's unique and different.  Fry hated many aspects of the 20th century, because they were too dull and boring.  Besides, she was the first person he met when he was unfrozen, and she befriended him rather quickly.  Also, what mint said ... she's his heroine.  But why, oh, why did it take so long for her to realize he was her hero?  And alas, it was too little, too late ...

Leela was created partly to play the role of love interest for him, but their relationship has changed a lot. At first they were standoffish, later they become friends, eventually they fell in love. Just compare the early shipper ep A Flight to Remember with Parasites Lost, and there's a clear difference between their relationships. Fry talked the talk in the former, but there was never any sense that there was anything really there the way there was in Parasites.

As for why Fry matured, I don't think he really did during the series, he never gets smarter, or more hard-working, but he does change a lot in one way - he goes from being casual toward the people he knows to treating them like they were the most important thing in his life.

Teral once said to me that the romance can't be the major part of Futurama because there aren't really that many episodes about it, but i think he missed the point - the love story isn't just about the romance either, because love, friendship and character are all connected in their story. The early Fry says 'damn!' when told he's loved as a friend, but he later comes to understand he was wrong, that his friends are the most valuable thing he ever had. Leela starts by rejecting Fry as not up to her standards but comes to realise her standards aren't what she really wants. That's not the full story but maybe its a taste of it.

As for why Leela, David A's got it right. Fry and Leela are both deeply lonely at heart, and for that reason they understand each other in a way that none of the other characters do.

Exactly, passerby.  Fry and Leela are both lonely; but together, they're lonely together.

Matt and David have said that the main story of Futurama is the bulding relationship of Fry and Leela.
Let my break it down to certain things that prove this.

SP3K- Fry and Leela learn that they have a lot in common since they both a people who are alone.
E2TSHL- Fry and Leela spend time on the moon and in the Lunar Lander.
MTS- Leela seems to be really concerned about Fry. Fry makes her mad, but she still chooses to help him. Fry cries when he thinks Leela is dead.
AFTR- Leela is jealous when Fry and Amy pose as a couple. Fry and Leela say it is good to be alone together that they almost kiss.
ISTE- Leela tells Fry she loves him as a friend, making Fry say damn
Xmas Story- Fry and Leela say it's good being alone together. They almost kiss.
PYHOMS- Leela is jealous of Fry when he's dating Amy. Fry dumps Amy after she likes hanging out with him. Leela tells Fry she likes hanging out with him, but he doesn't seem to mind.
ABBFT- Fry saves Leela from marrying a jerk.
AOI- Leela is implusive and sleeps with Fry, even though it is from the What if machine you have to wonder if that is what Leela wants.
WITH- Leela goes along to help Fry and Bender. Leela seemed flattered that Fry said he was in this war for her.
PL- Fry tells Leela for the first time he loves her. Leela falls in love with Fry, but dumps him when he loses the worms. Fry still has an interest in Leela, since that is image that pops up in the holophoner when Fry plays it.
TDTESS- Leela even though she's stupid is the only PE crew member that follows Fry to the Library.
TL- Fry and Leela are both going together to the award ceremony, but spend time in the tar pits
TCHR- Fry is the only one who says Leela looks prettier as a cyclops.
IITM- Fry and Leela kiss twice.
TKOS- They get married, divorced and Fry's Love message is destroyed before Leela can she it.
LAR- Leela is flattered by the candy that Fry chokes on and they spend Valentine's together with Zoidberg. Fry just his oxygen to Leela and Leela does mouth to mouth to Fry/
LH- Fry is concerned about Leela's saddness and helps Leela find her parents. Leela says, she flushed some important things down the toilet and Fry's love note is one of them.
ALOHO- Fry wants to pat her on the butt but is too embarrassed.
TMLH- They go on a date as kids and watch carefully at the scene where they are grown at the foundtain of aging. Leela has just finished her speech about loving the life he's lived and she and Fry stare at each other with smiles.
TWOF- Fry and Leela kiss for no comical reason. Leela is happy to see Fry that night.
TS- Leela is guilt ridden and sad when Fry dies. Fry never left her side when she was in the hospital. She has a box with random things from Fry.
TFP- Universe 1 Fry and Leela are married. Leela A decides to go out with Fry A to an ape fight.
THBB- Leela is the first person Fry saves in the fire.
TDHAIP- Leela is seemly impressed by Fry's holophone playing that when Fry is lousy again, she's the only person willing to listen to the lousy playing.

I'd like to go back to the initial post noting that Fry has a short attention span and his relationships are short. The reason for that is probably because the girl he's with always disappears. Fry sees Leela pretty much every day. You're not going to just forget someone you see every day. Seriously, do you think he ever saw the girl from the Hip Joint again?

I figured the fact that she flushed it down the toilet meant she didn't think much of it.

Jerkberg:

Issue 15: Leela risks life and limb to keep Fry from dying. (It's actually a lot funnier than that, but it's what she does.)

Issue 12: Leela gets a girl Fry is seeing to break up with him, and the end of the issue has Fry and Leela hugging on a bed in a *very* shippy pose. It's actually a *really* good issue, well worth seeking out.

Fry loves leela so as she is something he can't have. a man is more likly to go after a girl he cant have than a girl he can have as she is hard to get and if he finally gets her its 'rewarding' and if she rejects him over and over he knows he has tried and that he cant do any more.
belive me here im talking out of personally experieance!  :D

Leela compared to the other women Fry dated like Michelle, Amy, Morgan Proctor, Umbriel, and Lucy Liubot is very different.  Also how he dated them.  They were all pretty shallow short term relationships.  It is pretty much like Fry took a 180 degree turn with how he approachs relationships with Leela.

Oh I forgot to add that note she flushed down the toilet that was from Fry, her parents took and still put it on their shelf.  Odds are they must've liked what Fry said about their daughter, and would be okay if Fry and Leela went out.

I think Fry loves leela SO MUCH that he'll do anything to make her happy... Even if she's with other guys (Chaz, the mayor's aid, and Al the 'cyclops')he tries to make her see that they're total jerkwards and will only hurt her in the end.

He also won't give up in thinking that some how..some time... for some reason... leela will love him...

I think she was almost there...i mean she did tell zoidberg about it in 'time keeps on slippin'.. she was coming around by that stage...

I HONESTLY don't understand why not.... he is so lovely and cute... awwww.....
