I can't belive you think Fry is dumber than Homer... That means you only watch Futurama.

Homer is meant to be stupid, Fry is just a teenager who doesn't fit in the year 2000, it's ok if Fry says something stupid in a few episodes, but Fry is much more than a stupid character. I remind you Futurama isn't just humor.

Personally I don't think Fry is a dumb as people think, sure he can be dumb at times but he can be smart too.

E.g. The way he outsmarted the Brains In 'The day the earth stood stupid'

And the some of the language he uses at times is too complex for him to be truly stupid like in Cyber house rules (see below)

Leela: You're just jealous.

Fry: No I'm not. Oh wait I am, but my point remains valid.

A truly dumb person wouldn't have used the that terminology - "point remains valid"

I think he's just a typical twenty something guy, who still has to grow up a little
or take life more seriously (maybe thats a bad thing).

Having a gorgeous purple haired cyclops babe hanging around him is not gonna help him think straight either    :)

Thats my two cents worth anyway   :)

I nod my head in agreement with AstroZombie. Fry's not really too stupid. He does stupid things, but that's just because he's too cool/lazy to pay attention.

I remember people complaining about the "I'd hate to be those guys" joke in The Day The Earth Stood Stupid. Fry is obviously not so stupid that he doesn't know what planet Earth is. He just didn't feel like listening to Leela's boring explanations. So he blankly stares at her until she finally stops talking and then he says "I'd hate to be those guys". It's cool and funny.

Fry is basically a twenty-something teenager. He's not stupid as such, he's just lazy and more interesting in goofing off. And thus acting responsibly and mature just gets in his way of having a good time.

Homer on the other hand is totally clueless about most things.

Fry, like me is an unrecognised genius, how many times has he saved the city or plannet from destuction?
Fry just seems to be stupid to stupid people cos he has an alpha wave brain instead of a delta wave brain so he thinks in a different way to everyone else

I think Homer is the most stupid.  I just watched "The Simpsons" yesterday.  It was the Mindy ep over here in Oregon, and when trying to think "Unsexy thoughts", he thought of Patty and Selma shaving and Barney in a bikini singing the "I Dream of Jeannie" theme.  But like Fry, he has the potential to be smart.  Like in "Homr"(The emmy-nominated ep).  And Fry can also be smart, as evidenced in PL, one of my fav eps for obvious reasons.

Yeah, Homer and Fry both have their hearts in the right place, but Fry tends to also use his brain at the same time.

Inside Homer's head:
Da-da-dada-HEY!-dada-dada.....
Meowmeowmeow,meowmeowmeowmeow etc.

Well Homer's excuse is that after "Brother From the Same Planet" his brain deserted him.

Homer's Brain: [thinking] "Don't say revenge, don't say revenge, don't say revenge.."
Homer: "Uuhh, revenge."
Homer's Brain: "That's it, I'm outta here!"
[sound of steps and a door slamming]

Fry certainly has a more complete deck of cards to play with, than Homer can ever hope to acquire.

This is a rather vague question.  Homer used to be a fairly comptent person who suffered from clumsy-oafishness.  He was branded as a moron in the episode "Homer Goes to College," and has since degenterated into utter stupidity.  I once had respect for Homer as a man, because he was a good husband and father.  He has since evolved into a being of pure comic idiocy.

Fry, on the other hand, is just a guy whose character is based around his major flaws, immaturity and the poor judgement that accompanies childishness.  Thinking critically, we can see that early-season Homer and Fry are similar, as they both are plaugued by character flaws.

Zoidberg is a bonehead, plain and simple.  If you think about him in terms of character flaws, he's incompetent.  As for intellect, who knows?  I've never met a crustacean I didn't like (to eat).  It would seem Zoidberg is a moron, because he performs his job so poorly so often, but he does have shining moments, like his emergency surgery in "Put You Head on My Shoulder" and "Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love".

So a rating of relative stupidity (most stupid to least stupid):
1-new Homer
2-Dr. Zoidberg
3-old Homer
4-Fry

Lemme chip in myself and say this - Homer is totally idiotic these days. In Groening's own words he used to be more of a "surly authoritarian". But his slide into idiocy has been developing for years. Fry's brain is a little different, but I think a lot of his stupidity is just not paying attention to things/people. And Zoid's not stupid. He's naive and obviously not much of a doctor, and incompetent in most everything else to boot, but I'm willing to ascribe that to his being a crustacean in a mammal's world. Zoidy's a loser, not an imbecile.
