If you look in Less of a Hero,
you can see that the one mutant on the boat
with the three arms has an ear under his arm on his head, yet in I Second that emotion, the smoker mutaint says he only has one ear.

Well, you know mutants. In a constant state of mutating flux. Apparantly, anyhow.

No, No, No, It's obvious that the 3-armed mutant was really a spy for the zookeeper, and that was the flaw in his disguise.

The leg guy... well he is just wierd.

Maybe there are TWO leg mutants.  Brothers or something, perhaps.

It's called Less THAN Hero, damnit! THAN! THAN!!!

Now I'm pissed off...

Seriously, though - nicely spotted, but mutant continuity has never been a big thing in Futurama anyway.

Hey, we saw how quickly it mutated that rat, why can't it slowly change the mutants themselves (that would also explain how Leela's mom went from tentacle-armed to normal-armed to tentacle-armed, although I can't remember if normal arms were seen in the actual episode or just in the DVD special features).

Why would The Zookeeper know Leela's parents at all?

He also had an ear in Leela's Homeworld. It might've been put there to solve a staging problem, where Leela's hooded parents have to whisper into his ear, but the only one he had was on the inconvenient side of his body. But I somehow doubt it, don't you?  :D

"Leela's Homeworld" suggests that the toxic waste won't mutate mutants, which is why it had no effect on Leela herself.  It might depend on the nature of a particular mutation, though.

Yeah, but she was only exposed for seconds... I would think that long-term exposure would have an effect on the mutants, even after the original mutation.  But, we'll never know. My non-in-universe guess is that the ear replaced by the arm was done just for the joke, but the actual design has the ear under the arm. Why is anybody's guess.
