umm.. when i said ass kissing i didn't mean their own asses. And not all cats hate water. Infact some species are known for loving the water. Abysinian house cats as well as tigers.

i said kiss ass, not lick ass, the phrase 'kiss ass' is slang for suck up, or brown noser.

Oh, I thought you meant licking themselves. Oh well. But it's cute that they suck up. Cats grab you with their claws and don't let go. You need the jaws of life to get them off me. (Which is bad cause I get hives being around them too long). I'm also allergic to tangerine bath stuff. My back breaks out.

my cats don't do that. And their usually pretty good at figuring out who likes them and who doesn't. Maybe they just like screwing with you cause they know you hate them. Which is pretty intelligent if you ask me.

Whoa, ladies, what happened to this thread.  Back to Seymour.  BEST DOG EVER, if you're a dog person.  If you're a cat person, he's just dumb, I guess.  It was bittersweet anyways.

Just a question, if Seymour knew that Fry was in trouble in SP3 than why wasn't he in the origianl? Was he made up as the plot went along? Because I watched TLOtF with the commintary on and they said that that's what they did with Yancy.

Yeah, Seymour wasn't planned to be in the show at first. And Seymour wasn't dumb. He was loyal to the end.  cry

I really have a problem with calling Seymour a "dumb dog" because he waited for Fry as long as he did.
I really don't find it that hard to believe, but maybe that's because I grew up around stuff like this:

"The Enduring Legend Of Old Shep"
By Erik Floren, Sun Media

Back in August 1936, an ailing Shepard was hospitalized here.
Waiting patiently outside the hospital sat his faithful companion, a collie named "OLD SHEP".
But the shepard died and his body was shipped back east to his relatives for burial by the Great Northern Railroad.
As legend has it, Ol' Shep followed th casket, whining, from the hospital to the station but was prevented from boarding the train.
So there he sat waiting.
For more than five years, ol' Shep greeted each train as it pulled into the station, hoping to
finally meet his master.
Shep's story was carried in newspapers around the world and appeared in Ripley's "Believe It Or Not", two and a half years into his vigil.
Ironically,Shep was run over by a trail on January 12, 1942.
By that time the story was so well known that both the AP & UPI carried his obituary, pushing aside some of the war news.

I had this same question, but upon paying closer attention, I realized that JB showed different angles. We never saw Fry leave the shop in SP3k, which is where Seymour has the most effect on continuity. All we see in SP3K is Fry getting the pizza and then he's on his bike enroute to Applied Cryogenics. In JB, we see stuff that happened on his way out. ie: Seymour restraining him.

I still disagree with this thread's title. Seymour proved to be very intelligent and intuitive. After all, he seems to know Fry will not come back from this delivery.

He's waiting out of the hope that Fry will return. He had no way of understanding or knowing that Fry would be gone for 1,000 years.

I don't care what real dogs would have done. (Since when did this show EVER shoot for realism?) Most of the Professor's inventions ARE a complete load and I don't see threads calling that stupid. Threads to try and explain it yes, but not outright denounce them as unrealistic. As it stood in 1999 as well as today, Fry would never have awoken from his accidental freezing. He most likely would have died. I know these are unrelated points, but the author claims that Seymour is unrealistic, and therefore dumb. Well, that being the case, there's a lot of dumb stuff in Futurama    wink

Sure, you can have a thread exploring the dog's choices and the absurdity of them. Have a fun time doing that, I'm just saying that Fryfan's being a little narrowminded for a show that asks you to buy into impossible concepts. And then later laugh along as the show points out its own absurdity.

The end of a story is only the beginning.

Because Fry told him to wait outside Pannuci's for him. That's what made the ending so emotional.

Well, Seymore is a dog, they don't usually have sentient thought, they have instincts. Seymore stayed in front of Panuzzi's, not because he thought it was the best thing to do, but because his instincts told him so. He associate Panuzzi's with Fry, that's were he most often see Fry, so naturally he'd stay put waiting for Fry. His loyalty (yeah, that can be instinctive too) was what made him wait for Fry, rather than looking fr another owner. From what we saw, the only two people he really bonded with was Fry and Panuzzi, so unless another human picked him up and carried him home (and how many people do that with stray dogs?)  he probably wouldn't wander off himself.

The scene with Seymore always reminds me of a scene from Homer's Odyssey where Odysseus returns home and finds that his loyal dog has waited for him all those years. I assume that's what it was derived from.

I'd have to say I think Seymour is at least a little dumb. But that's ok -- he's a good match for "special" fry.

(N.B: I'm a cat person. Incidently: could you picture Fry with a cat? That just doesn't work.)
