In A Taste Of Freedom,Zoidberg goes into a flash back of when he was little and we see his mother.
The error is that according to Why Must I Be A Crustation in Love, when Zoidberg's race
passes it's genes,they die.
So,if Zoidberg was born, then how come his mother is still alive.

But she's not his mother.

Hence her line: "...if you want your parents to roll over in their graves."

could still be relating to herself and her husband, but its still left open. maybe parents hire a sort of legal guardian for children they wont have a chance to watch after the big mating frenzy.

I remember in Lobstertainment that he indroduced himself to his uncle as having three parents. I think those would be the two genetic parents (who died on mating) and the one person that raised him (who we saw in AToF).  Perhaps there is a whole caste system with a one group dedicated to raising the children of the dead... or just a celibate aunt. Whatever gets the job done.

She could have been Zoidberg's aunt.

Maybe there are sterile Decapodians, like in an ant colony. The sterile ones look after the children and also are the most revered, as they can reach old age.

With a biologic trait this devastating to society, it would make sense if the Decapodian nation have set up some kind of Guardian System to take care of all the young Decapodians. Either a public, government-funded system of professional caretakers, or an honor-system where young people likely to be hit by the frenzy appoint someone to take care of the offspring, usually a trusted friend, close relative or someone similar. Naturally this will be one of the highest honors a Decapodian can achieve, and the Guardians/Caretakers are highly respected members of society.

Hmmm, that would be an interesting plot-line for a future story. It would technically mean Zoidberg would be very highly respected back on Decapod 10 - you know I think he is anyway. He's not much of a good-looker, but he certainly didn't get treated half as bad by his own people as he does on Earth, both in WMIBACIL and ATOF.

Yeah, zoidberg actually seemed to be treated with quite a lot of repect on Decapod 10. Being a doctor people just assume that he would be rich and dignified.

yeah, like how his uncle is, you can tell that people from Zoidberg's planet misinterpret that he's rich and dignified.

I actually had the idea once to write a fanfic about Zoidy returning to Decapod 10 to the opening of Edna's will, only to discover she had left the costudy of her 23 children to him. Then I saw it was a bit too similar to "The Honking" and dumped it.
