I just noticed as I looked at a framegrab of Morris (20-something years ago, from Leela's Homeworld) and compared it to a framegrab of Alcazar, that the two look extremely alike. Let me show:

I don't know if it's been brought up before, and I couldn't find a good thread for it, so I made one...

Is that hard to accept?  I mean Alcazar was trying to look a lot like what whatever Leela's race would be, it's only logical he would look similar to someone from that species if he got it right.

Anyways there a few differences.  Morris's hair isn't the same color and Alcazar has a little more romanesque features... like look at the bump in his cheek...

Yeah, they sort of look similar, although their noses are different shapes.

I guess Groening's style only leave you that many ways of drawing a cyclops male. I mean, the characters don't have eyebrows or chins. The eye is pre-determined to be large and bulging, the hair purple and all Futurama characters pretty much have the same mouth-shape. That leaves nose, ear and hair-style. And would it have killed them to give Al some more hair? He looks like me for crying out loud.  :D

Yeah, they do look alike, but as I see it it's  not intentionally.

They gave him that hair because he's supposed to look like Ed O'Neill/Al Bundy.  Morris has that hair in the flashback because he's bald in the present.

Good point, AJ. I totally forgot about the MwC homage.

Wait, that means I look like Al Bundy too. Woo-hoo!

Is it really an homage to Married with children? Does anyone acctually like that show? I hated Leela at first, because she was played by that annoying woman. urgh

Yeah, some people like that show. Me for one.  ;) But like all Futurama references, it's a fine balance between homage/goodnatured teasing.

Peggy was annoying, but Katey Sagal is actually pretty talented. I just recently started to watch her new show "6 Simply Rules For Dating My Daughter", pretty good show.

On a slightly similar note, i think from memory that leela's mother has normal arms when you see her in the background in "I second that emotion."

She does; the character design on the DVDs clearly shows her with arms.  I guess she briefly un-mutated around the time of "I Second that Emotion."  (Well, really, they changed her because they wanted her to look less human than Leela.)

Dude that's just wrong. Didn't Leela sleep with Alcazar?

Not to mention Alacazar was a shape shifting bug. No relation. So the joke doesn't make any sense really.  :p

Maybe Alcazar somehow knew of Leela's true origins.  I mean it's amazing what you can learn on the internet.

it's not that surprising that he would resemble Leela's father. Think about it. He was trying to trick leela into believing he was a member of her species so he tried to make himself look as much like her as possible, and since Leela is obviously related to Morris and would therefore carry some of his traits, it stands to reason Al would end up looking a bit like Morris.

Your all wrong the only similarity between Morris and Al is the fact that they have one eye and purplish coloured hair

there was originally a spoiler box here, saying what I thought. but then I noticed it was simply the plot of the episode and had it removed. It consisted of:

I wonder why they didn't get Ed O'Neill to be the voice of Alkazar.

Apparently he hates FOX just as bad as Futurama fans. And who can blame him after the shabby way they put an end to "Married ... with Children".
