In Godfellas, Bender says he only knows enough binary to [something I don't remember] so if it's binary, it must have been this, or else he wouldn't have understood the writing on the wall.

The writing in "The Honking" was a simple binary number. Quite easy to deciffer, particular for a robot. Speaking Binary as a language probably require knowledge about pronounciation, grammar, etc. So Bender knows about binary numbers, but isn't wellversed in the Binary language.

He uttered a binary prayer in Hell Is Other Robots, which was obviously pretty long since it fades halfway through to a bored PE crew still enduring Bender's binary later on. He might've forgotten that prayer when he ditched religion though.

Although Computers and probs robots work in Binary (well computers to this date) so i would of thought that he would of understood this,

although he may have a CPU or memory or somthing that does not work in binary (because it's the future) so that might be why he does not understand it, mabe bender could only read that binary prayer because it might of been written into his software (when he got that sybol thing on his chest) that would of had the prayer so when he took it off he forgot it.

anyway who cares it was funny, :D

Also, he probably learnt that prayer in HIOR at the Robotology church or something.

If anyone want a binary translator, get it here:
 http://www.adcott.net/binary/

I don't know if it's just bullshit, it could be, but I ran a little check, and it seems alright.

There were quite a few references (dammit I can't remember any, but I swear there are!) alluding to the fact that Bender despises it when ppl confuse him with a computer. I'm guessing it's similar to having somebody misread your ethnicity.

Bender was not 'praying' in binary, he was QUOTING.  (To quote the prophet Jerematic, 100100...)
robots have excellent memories
also, that binary translator is just a simple ascii code -> binary converter
edited to remove embarassment

What about the binary in some of the other episodes besides the werecar episode? Or maybe I should make a new thread about this?

Good idea (and cool site!), unfortunately I am lazy and can't wait to try to record these episodes (besides the werecar episode) THEN try to decipher any binary.

On second thought, I think "A Head In the Polls" is the only other episode with binary. Even then, the binary is in the background, splayed across the entire screen, so then I guess it's almost impossible to decipher.

It's probably jibberish anyway, I was just wondering and hoping that somebody else had already deciphered any other binaries.

The binary in AHitP is definitely gibberish as it includes a 2. The only other binary strings I can think of in Futurama are Bender's room number (00100100 = 36 or '$' in ASCII) and the binary "POW" from Less Than Hero (01001010 = 74 or 'J' in ASCII).

Is anything ever just jibberish in Futurama?

It's a joke. Since Bender is a robot it makes sense that he dream in binary (akin to "Do robots dream of electric sheep?" ). The confused numbers and the appearence of a 2 is to show he's having a nightmare.

I already totally understood the joke. and the 2 being in there to represent a really really bad nightmare. I don't understand what made you think I didn't understand. Sorry if I sound defensive, but as a Futurama fan I find it highly offensive when somebody accusses me of not getting a futurama joke that I actually did get.

I was trying to say that the way the binary was shown on screen during the dream sequence makes it seem impossible to decipher, since it's the screen's background and it goes on beyond the screen.

And thanks to Wernstrom to clarifying that the binary in AHiTp is gibberish. Bender's prayer is probably gibberish too, considering that it's practically impossible to decipher binary from listening to it verbally. That thing about Bender's room number and the POW thing is really interesting. I wonder if there's any more?

Well, my reply wasn't meant to be offensive or anything, just a friendly reply. I don't see what made you think I was accusing you of anything.

"so then I guess it's almost impossible to decipher." "It's probably jibberish anyway" These two parts indicated you might think there's a hidden message in the numbers. Well, it did to me.

The 0's and 1's in AHITP represent normal dreams for a robot and the '2' is a nightmare. When Bender wakes up he says:
"And I thought I saw a 2!"
"It's just a dream Bender, theres no such thing as 2." as if a mother would say "Theres no such thing as a boogeyman"

Heh, Bender's Were-Car form is based off a B-Movie "the Car", they did a good job copying the form of "the Car" onto Bender's Were-Car form

The Car

Bender's Were-Car form

i also noticed that the top center bar of his bumper tends to randomly appear and dissapear, it's there in the above frame, yet....
