I've been wondering, sorry if this question's already been asked, /edit - or in the wrong forum - but does anyone know or have a rough idea in what part of New New York is the PE HQ actually built? Is it on the future equivilant of Manhattan, or somewhere else? Has this been established in the show? Does anyone have a framegrab of one of those moments when we zoom either in or out of the HQ seeing a large chunk of New New York?

All I know is that I doubt it's in Brooklyn or too close to New Jersey, though my knowledge of New York is fairly non-existant anyway.   :hmpf:
Cheers in advance   :)

My knowledge of New york geography is woefully limited, but I'll hazard a guess.
Assuming that the topography is about the same in New New York as it is in New York, it seems that the PE Building is somewhere on the east side of Manhattan.
Why?
In TFP, when Leela finishes guarding the box for the night, the clock in the room chimes 7 a.m. The establishing shot of the PE building shows the rising sun across the adjacent river. Therefore this river must be to the east of the building. Unless I'm greatly mistaken, the only way this can happen is if the PE Building is on the east side of Manhattan.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There's way too many east faceing coasts in the New York area. Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx Staten Island. I would think the Bronx overlooking the Long Island Sound.
You can see for your self:

Based on that (and my tourist map of New York) I've come to the shocling conclusion that Planet Express might be located in New Jersey!!

No, no, wait hear me out, before you brutally murder me for speaking heresy.

Take a smeek at this framegrab from SP3k. Explanation below.

1: Location of PE (where the peace officers are firing their laser canons)
2: Lincoln Tunnel (it would be logic if NNY reused the old tunnels rather than digging new)
3: Penn Central Tunnels (see above)
4: The southern part of Central Park
5: Newton Creek

That would put PE somewhere in Weehawken, on the Hudson riwer. And, yes, I know New Jersey isn't part of the city of New York as such.

Now you may kill me, but remember it's just a theory.

Why wouldn't that be facing east from Manhattan? And what about those bridges (directly below 2)?

Because of the river on the opposite site of the landmass in the middle of the shot. Since there aren't any rivers in Queens, I'm assuming that's East River.

As for the bridge below 2, either Lincoln Tunnel is transparent and laid bare, or they built a bridge above it as well.

No, that's fine. I always thought that the river PE was adjacent to was the Hudson. This just helps my theory.

What could happen is that NY could have expanded into the state of New Jersey. Think about it, in 1000 years the borders between states could change. It's likely that NYC ran out of room sometime, and had to annex neighboring areas for land.

But that undermines the joke of having the old DOOP HQ in Weehauken, in BBA.

If DXC saw this thread he'd shake his head and say, "Geeks."   :)

Teral, did you decode the Dead Sea Scrolls in a former life?

Hmm....SQFreak, I accuse you of being David X. Cohen! You're undercover, trying to get our input on the show!

Out of context, wouldn't it be cool if SQFreak really was DXC, or if any PEELer was a staff member (aside from Sarge, natch').

Okay, you got me. I'm actually Patric Verrone (but don't tell anyone).

Yeah, turned out it was just a collection of recipes for tapioca pudding. Lots of disappointed faces at the CERN lab that day, I'll tell you.

Since David is the ultimate Futurama/sci-fi nerd I'd be honored if he would count me among his peers.   :D

That would solve it (and leave in the DOOP HQ joke if they only took the waterfront), besides it's not like anyone would be sad if New Jersey got smaller.

Ah that's grand y'all, thanks.  :)

Yeah, boundaries may have changed in the future a bit, I'll go with that one. Since Teral's evidence is so thorough it's difficult to argue against. Eep.
When they go house hunting in I, Roomate there's that bit when the guy says "We are technically in New Jersey" and it evidently appalls Fry, so wouldn't working in New Jersey do the same? It also suggests that the boundaries would have changed, since Fry should have (...surely?) spotted that anything west of the Hudson River would be New Jersey when looking for a house unless there was an extention of New New York on that side.

Hmm it could make sense that PE HQ was in Weehauwken, New Jersey.
Because in Brannigan Begin Again after Zapp and Kif were dishonorably discharged therefore they had no money. Then we were treated to the Midnight Cowboy homage montage. Double French.
I'm sure what money they made was for food, no money for transport so PE HQ could've been a short walk away.

That's my theory. Feel free to tear it apart.  :)

I think the PE HQ is located where ever it needs to be, just like Springfield...  :p

I've made an image showing where I think the PE building might be.

Just look for the big red X. I could be, and most probably am wrong, as my knowledge of NY is extremely limited. Can anyone confirm/deny?

The best view on where the PE building is, is to take a look at the ending of When Aliens Attack, when the PE building is located next to the Satute Of Liberty.
