Okay, in the episode "The Sting", when Fry died, Bender said, "Who will make Bender waffles just the way he likes them now?" Why did he say that? He doesn't eat? Does he? Please, somebody explain this to me.

He probably just goes around taunting the homeless with them or something.

He eats, for unknown reasons although he can't like the waffles cause he dosen't have a sense of taste.

He does in some episodes.
In Bender gets made he loves the food at Elzars. Although he could just be pretending to enjoy the food to fit in. Or if he does have a sense of taste he loses it in some episodes due to the fact that he's constantly erasing his memory and reseting his modes etc.
See, there's an explanation for everything.

Also, even though I don't think this is what he meant, he could be saying "Bender waffles" meaning his own type of certain waffles.  Meaning Bender won't have anyone to try his Bender waffles that like them like Fry does, if that makes any sense.

I like M Jackson's explanation, but another point to bear in mind is that the meal Bender gets in "Bender Gets Made" isn't human food, it's a 'Sturno nisuasse' (sp?) - robot food that perhaps registers on a different level to taste. Fry tasting it was just funny  :)

In "The 30% Iron Chef" Benders lack of taste is an important part of the plot. Well, okay, maybe not, but it is the reason why Helmut Spargle agrees to teach him.

The pie he eats in that episode also goes through without getting harmed.

In "A Fishfull Of Dollars" he has to observe how the other react to the anchovi-pizza before he decides to spit it out.

I guess Bender just wants to fit in, and have a systemt hat allows him to analyze the foodcomponents. When he compares it with a (very limited) databank he can tell what taste humans will experience. Since it's not an essential thing for robots the databank only covers very basic stuff, such as sterno-something, icecream, coffee, etc., not extinct animals and complex gourmet cooking.

On the audio commentary for A Fishful Of Dollars, they say that at the time, they were unsure whether or not Bender would be able to taste anything, but they made their mind up in the next episode that he wouldn't - apparentally he only spat out the pizza to fit in.

Yeah, I think he's just trying to fit in. Just like he said in "Fry And The Slurm Factory" when he jumped in to the dirty slurm with Fry and Leela, "Everybody was doing it, I just wanted to be popular."

At Elzar's, Bender is eating flaming liquor I think. Though that would destroy all the ethanol...

I agree with the whole fitting in thing. That seems to be the explenation that seems most logical. Thanks, guys.

Maybe "the way he likes them" implies that the waffles are made as pobot food or something.

Maybe Bender waffles look like Benders face or are filled with booze or are wrapped around a beer bottle or something.

well, robots eat like robot stuff, right?  i don't know what they're called, but in one episode the crew are at Elzars and Bender gets some kind of robot stuff.

I think that this is the best explanation or close to what I think it as anyhoo.
It seems to me that Bender was implying that Fry makes 'bender waffles' just the way he likes them, because bender makes them soo poorly. It would make sence (30% iron chef), although Bender does make a fabulous cake in "I Second That Emotion"

Either that, or it really was the Wizards fault...

Well Bender's always going on about "Kill all humans" so it seems sorta reasonable to me that he would be in favour of eating them.  Anyone?

Look, Bender's got no sense of taste (officially) but we've seen him eat, and he's got to have some way of evaluating what he eats.  I know a guy with almost no sense of taste, and he can still tell whether he likes particular food or not.  He judges by texture, presentation, etc.  So Bender has presumably got some internal standards by which he judges the food he eats, even though he doesn't have a sense of taste and doesn't need to eat.

The Cannibalon joke was great.  It might have made more sense technically coming from a human with a sense of taste, but since we all know Bender's character, it's much funnier when he says it.  And in the end, plausibility will have to be bent around whatever is funniest.

^ That has nothing to do with anything.

Try this one: "Who will make 'Bender waffles' just the way he likes them now?" Meaning Bender made the recipe and Fry cooks them just the way he (Fry) likes them. Bender would be upset, since no one else would eat the "Bender waffles".

And as for the "can he taste" question, see canned eggs explanation.

Yeah, there's a structural ambiguity in the phrase "make Bender waffles" where it could mean "make waffles for Bender" or "make a certain type of waffles, i.e. Bender waffles."  I think this has been hinted at before, by Futurama_Hil.

Hey, maybe the visual symmetry of waffles appeals to Bender's logical robot brain.

my question is if bender is constantly goinog on about 'kill all humans' then how come when we first meet bender he wanted to commit suicide after he finds out his bending job was making suicide booths, surely that is whay he wants??

Suicide booths kill robots, too.  Otherwise, why would he be trying to use one?

Here's a better question: why didn't he just self-destruct when he found out he was making suicide booths? He seemed to not like the idea of the booths in general, that's why he decided to commit suicide. Why bother with a booth if you can just blow yourself to smithereens anytime you want?

From "A head in the polls":

Bender bemoans the loss of his body:
Bender: How could I let this happen? I can't go through the rest of my life like this.
Farnsworth: Don't you have a self-destruct button?
Bender: Yea, but it's on my body!
