I can't find this anywhere, but i have to believe there is one person who
1.) Watches Futurama
2.) Visits this board
3.) Speaks Chinese
I wanna know what Amy is saying when she gets all mad!
John DiMaggio said that in that one episode where Bender says something back to Amy in Chinese, that it had an actual translation and i believe somewhere else in the commentary they said Lauren Tom is actually saying real things, so lets find out what they are!
ps. i hope it doesnt take so long to get replies to this post that it falls off the bottom of the page!

It's not me speaking chinese, picked it up somewhere else, but here is some information, you might be interested in:
Amy Wong screamed something like 'Jaam-an-a-how' when she was frustrated with the toy grabber machine in 'The series has landed' ... which is the equivalent to 'Fuck you' in Chinese.

Are you sure? On the DVD they say that when Amy speaks Chinese, it's nothing bad.

ide yami sou! yamouto panayia sou! yamou tou hristo! esi eise vlakas! then kseries tipota!

well, that was phonetic greek for ya, can you make heads or tails?

point is:
i bet even if someone chinese who watched futurama heard the lines, i doubt that they would understand them easily. they don't exactly strive for language excelence in a cartoon show. if i ever hear greek done by a non greek, then it just sounds like uneducated beggar tourist trash, toally garbled with emphasis in all the wrong places.

it's sYlable, bot sylAble...

I'm pretty sure Lauren Tom speaks fluent chinese and speaks it properly...
and one of Matt Groening's favorite parts about the show is it's EXCELLENT voicing, so i'd say this show strives for language excellence, few would disagree with me i think.

El Zilcho, as I noted above, I know nothing in Chinese, I just gave the information, I read somewhere.

We can only hope some Chinese fan will show up here and let us know the truth. So I post this otherwise meaningless message just to keep this tread on top of the page.

Hi all, I can't make out the whole part in "The Series Has Landed". But it goes something like this: (key slips)...aiya, jiao ni hao da si ni...

aiya : somewhat equivalent to homer's "doh"

jiao ni hao : although it can be translated into chinese, but it makes no sense to me
(jiao = call, ni = you, hao = good)

da si ni : I'll beat you to death -or- I'll kill you
(da = beat, si = dead, ni = you)

Of course I can be totally wrong if she is actually using a different dialect of chinese.

Notice Amy also said "da si ni" in "Amazon Women in the Mood".

According to an old PEEL-post Amy speeks Cantonese.

Could Amy mean something like: "D'oh! Think you're so good? I'll beat you!" Yelling at the machine, because it mocks her. The animation would support this.

Just throwing out an idea here.

Welcome to PEEL, Lao Wai. Enjoy it here.

John DiMaggio also said on one of the commentaries something about the fact the Amy (or rather Lauren Tom) actually speaks real chinese.
He had to repeat the "da si ni" part and he said that it meant "I'll beat you".
I think it was on the "The Series has landed" commentary.
Aside from that, welcome Lao Wai.

From what I recall Amy curses in a mix of Chinese, Cantonese, Korean and some stuff that's apparently pure Martian, Christ I feel like one of those Star Trek nerds who can rattle off the dictionary in Klingon.

It took only five days! I'm very, very impressed.

Now I have nothing to lord over everybody... But there's one thing they can't take away from me... The way I wear my hat... Yes, they can't take that away from me...

Hi, I've been a futurama fans for years, and I'm native cantonese (and i also speak mandarin)

the truth is, from a chinese point of view, what amy says in the show is unrealistic and grammtically incorrect... so there is no point attempting to figure it all out, coz doing so will drive u mad.  her chinese pronounciation isn't too accurate either- i suppose the chinese language itself has transformed/revolved within that 1000 yrs of time.

Most ppl here got the "da say nei" right, it's cantonese, meaning punch you to death.

for the rest, please mark my words: it is impossible even for a native chinese to figure them all out.  stop wasting your time.

Why don't you put on the subtitles and see how its spelt, then go to a translator and translate it?

It doesn't, plus the translations suck anyway(from English to Dutch)... :(
