I have just been thinking about the maths in "when aliens attack" i don't know if its been discussed before but here it goes

In the episode Fry knocks FOX off the air in 1999 and it takes 1000 years to transmit the signal that meens it reached Omicron Persei 8 sometime in 2999, that meens Fry wouldn't have woken up (especially since the episode is at least 5 days after he wakes up).

Has anyone else spotted this/got an explanation? I can only think of one but i'll wait to see your ideas before i post it.

The Professor probably rounded down.  It's unlikely that OP8 is EXACTLY 1000 light years.

Somebody should find out. But as they said in the commentary, they picked Omicron Persei for that reason.

Like Wolf 359 it's not a fictional system. It's there, approxmately a thousand lightyears away.

And in a thousand years they will invade Earth once the transmission of the FOX declaration of canceling Futurama reaches them...

The distance between Earth and Omicron Persei (or Atik, Ati, Al Atik as it's sometimes named) is only roughly 1000 LY. Estimates range depending on what catalogue your consult, one of the catalogues put Atik at a distance of 1011 LY, some set it at 1100 LY.

I guess Futurama have shown that Omicron Persei is just a little above 1000 LY away.

OP8 is over 1000 light years from earth, Ken Keeler said so.

Then again, he also said that Principal Skinner was an impostor, so who are we to believe?

If anyone isn't too lazy to do the research as to the exact distance, as I am:

From CGEF:
Omicron Persei 8 is a habitable planet orbiting the star Omicron Persei, also know as Atik. Located in the Pleiades star cluster.
