I was wondering how many people, when they see the alien alphabet symbols in futurama, look it up and see what it meens.

I did for all of season 1 but I have not done it since then. Is there any really funny things I'm missing?

I scanned and enlarged the AL1 key from Futurama Comics #1, printed it, cut it out, and taped it to the side of my moniter. I then wrote down all the vowels and taped the to the other side of my moniter. With how much I watch Futurama, I'm on the verge of being able to read it without a key.

Aliens Unlimited was pretty well versed in that area, until it closed.

But Bending Bender Rodriguez has taken up the reins. Try that one, it's updated to the current season.

Cool links!
I wounder how those people could read all that in the first place, some of it looks like it would be very hard to read.

AL1 was direct letter substitution
but AL2 was different, u had to apply some mathematics to decode it did u?

as I remember... I could just be insane tho

In the good ol days of yore, I would look it up, slow stuff down, relook, decode and post everything.

Ah, AU. Heh heh.

Anyway, AL1 was direct, AL2 is more complex. The first number is decoded directly. Then you have to calculate the other numbers like this: Each number minus the last number. If the answer is less than zero, you have to add 26. Do this for the whole string. Then you take the new numbers and asign them to letters, 00=A, 01=B, 02=C, and so on.

I made a zero reply topic about this a while ago, what the hell does it say on the country's singer truck in AL2?

And Kryten, how fluently can you read it? Like normal text, or having to think about the characters for a moment?

I can read it but thats because i spent hours decoding it using the season 1 dvds you know when it flashes up for a second when you chose an option. And then i wrote it down and taught it to all my friends and we wrote messages to each other when we were bored in class (all the time). God I miss college! i'll have to teach my friends at uni all about it... nah, they think i'm weird wnough

i think AL1 looks really cool and quite nice, AL2 is less 'pretty' for lack of a better word (or a better vocabulary.

'i really like your building vocabulary column. Its really, really ..good' (rough quote from simpsons)

Yeah, I don't know why they did that arrow thing. Im starting to think someone just copied that out of some old 'Secret Codes' book.
