as we all know, jesus' second coming (in 2443 i believe) ruined all video tapes.. that was the basis behind the omicronians coming for earth when they couldnt watch an episode of 'single female lawyers'.. which brings up the question, how was fry able to watch sanford and son on video & the petridge farm thing in his vcr in "a fishfull of dollars"?

if you have an answer, make sure that you dont debunk the "single female lawyer" lost episode in the process..

This is precisely why these message boards are such a source of fun for the Futurama crew.

They screwed up.  :p

My expalnation is that the BBC bought the Sanford and son tapes in 2015 believing them to be lost episodes of Steptoe and son.  Once they realised their mistake they chucked the tapes in the nearest dustbin.  A binman found the tapes, and stuck them in his attic.

They were then forgotten about for hundreds of years, thus surviving the second coming of Jesus, before being found in 2998 by archeologists investigating the ruins of Old London.

[EDIT]The archeologists also discovered the long lost and priceless Doctor Who episode "The Tenth Planet: Episode 4".  However since the other three episodes of the story had been destroyed during the second coming of Jesus, it was now deemed worthless.[/EDIT]

actually in the ep the proffesor said that MOST video cassettes were ruined, not necesarily ALL of them. Which would explain why the three's company tape Fry bought was at a pricy auction.

Also, he said from that era, in reference to the era 1999 is considered in by the people of the future. Perhaps the old tapes were considered from a different era... maybe Jesus destroyed our era tapes because of their smutty-ness... or he preferred Beta... who knows.

also, another acceptable answer would have been that someone used a spaceship to fly where the omicronians lived and video taped the broadcast.. seeing as how transmissions from the year 1999 were just getting there, and it really doesnt take them that long to get to omicron persei 8, it shouldnt take them much longer to fly even further and pickup sanford & son reruns.

Wow. A crustacean beat you all. You should be ashamed. That was going to be my answer though, so I'm just plain angry.

Wait, I have another idea now. What if the tapes that Fry was watching had been previously available (like 2009 or something) on DVD and had been re-transferred after the second coming?

i deserve better than curustacean status =)

and actually, sanford & son is already on dvd.. i saw them in a bestbuy ad this weekend..

by the way, another acceptable answer would have been that there were some copies on a different planet that fry bought.. altho, i dont know if jesus just destroyed the tapes on planet earth, or universe wide..

Or maybe Fry bought bootlegs made from a DVD in year 2765.

Ot, maybe Jesus just had a soft spot for Sanford and Son.

I always figured that the destruction of the VHS tapes was to cover up mankinds fascination with everything that was against religion and good taste.  I figured it was a last ditch effort to cover up mankind's infernal 'weapons of mass mental destruction.'

Even if we skip the coming of jesus I would certainly like to know what company makes videos that last 1000 years and is still usabel, I have hard time watching only 15 years old videos..

Besides, there is still the Internet, and as we all know (wink, wink), it is a good place to find good TV Series there. Therefore, Single, female lawyer wasn't good enough to have their episodes preserved on the Internet (sort of)
