In "Fry and the Slurm Factory," The Slurm Queen tells Bender that he will be made into 174 cans of Slurm. The 174th episode of The Simpsons is "The Old Man and the Lisa," in which Lisa helps Burns regain his fortune..... by recycling cans! Burns also makes a drink called Slurry (somewhat similar to Slurm in spelling) out of ground-up fish and such.

Another small parallel- both the Futurama and Simpsons episodes reference "Soylent Green." The Simpsons parody the ending with Lisa running down the street claiming recycling is evil. Futurama references it when Leela tells Fry there is already a drink made from people called Soylent Cola.

Did anyone else catch this one?

I knew that The Simpsons and Futurama sometimes reference "Soylent Green" but the 174 cans, you were deep.

Even on my first viewing of the episode, the number 174 really jarred me. It makes no sense for a 525 pound bending unit to only make 174 soda cans.

Now we know the reason for the number 174, I guess.

Isn't there another thread this could be merged into, by the way?

Hm...the other threads in this forum are also mostly very specific, e.g. "Location of Robot Hell". So, I'd say this thread goes along well with the others, and does not really have to be merged.

But maybe it could be renamed into "Simpsons references in Futurama", to contain further hidden and found Simpsons Easter eggs.

Hormel must be running your account.

Also I think there would be a chance that this thread can be merged.
Because we have tons of threads as is.

Plus, CPB reminds me of those sports analysts who show these rather interesting facts about some sports teams and what not.
