The Deep South is an excellent example of Fry doing something seemingly mundane and stupid as flushing the toilet while the PE ship is under atmospheric pressure.  It solves the problem, and Fry has no reason to explain the reason that they're still alive other than he had to take a leak.  The physics of this, and a fundamental understanding of plumbing (which is a true physical representation of reality) are an example of Fry's intense intellectual capacity.
