While reading the English Subtitles on Season 2, Disk 4, when Professor Farnsworth said, "Fing-longer", the subtitle read, "Thing Longer".

Actually, the reason I wanted to read the subtitles was because I never understood what the Professor was saying to Leela when he described her as (what sounded like) "dulless dishwater Leela".  What is "dulless dishwater", I thought?

The line is "dull-as-dishwater", an expression I'd never heard.  Billy West is usually very careful how he pronounces his lines and I was surprised that I couldn't understand what he was saying.

His carefulness is noted by one of the commentators on another episode where he clearly pronounces the letters "D", "N", and "A", every time he says, "DNA".  I noticed that he also was careful to pronounce each letter of LSD in the episode,  "Iron Cook"  (Iron-edoo Cook-ed-oo!)

The English subtitles are done by a company that does not seem to have the script in front of them.  That's what this thread is about.

What would be wrong with sharing the script with these folks?  It's kinda hinky doing it the way they're doing it.

You should probably make seven threads about it. One each for the six possible interpretations and one for general discussion. Spread them all over the place too.

And if someone says something bad to you, you should make a new thread complaining about the person and make sure you post it in the General Discussion because it is about futurama.

So what I hear you saying is that if you cannot understand one of the actors that you should just continue in ignorance.  That sounds like a viable solution.  Expecting that the left hand knows what the right hand is doing at Futurama is too much to expect.

That's idiotic.

I think you are overreacting a bit. It's not like this is the only media in which a subtitle has been correct in the history of everything subtitled ever. And honestly, their budget is restricted enough as it is, I'd rather they spent it on animators and writers than on subtitlers.

Okay, everyone ... It's time to put the mouse down, step away from the computer, and get some fresh air. (You know, that big room outside of your house?) (Or your parents' house, as the case may be?)

My (Region 4) dvd of Bender's Big Score has two noticable mistakes in the subtitles:

 1) "Use variation of parameters and expand the rhine-skin." (Should be Wronskian — what were they thinking!)

 2) "Comet says be slow to anger." (So comets can talk now? Or should that be Talmud?)

Some of us PEEL from our gardens on our laptops. It's nice to sit on the lawn and imagine that everybody else behind a keyboard is also sat on a lawn, even if the lawn is mostly dandelions at the moment, and the cat keeps leaving parts of dead mice in the borders.
