This may have been spotted many, many years ago, so apologies if I'm very late.

But when did Futurama start using characters from other TV shows as heads in jars?

In the latest episode (All The Presidents' Heads) I couldn't help but spot two names:

Amelia Pond (Doctor Who - though it didn't look like her) and Inara Serra (Firefly).

I can't find any real people with the name so I presume both are a reference to the characters. But why not stick the names Karen Gillan and Morena Baccarin on the labels?

Uuuum.... The Star Trek cast... They had an entire ep about them...

And Cartman was in BBS, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

The cast, not the characters themselves.

They were forced to be the characters...

That's not what they're asking, Danny.

But yeah, Cartman's head in the background of Bender's Big Score is a good catch.

I think Apu from The Simpsons makes a Cameo in "Where No Fan Has Gone Before"

Top right, along with John Stewart. A nice nod to them being on Comedy Central from this point onwards.

Amelia Pond, Inara Serra

Zoe Washburne is in the same episode (part of the pyramid Zoidberg is dancing on).

Wait, there were two Doctor Who references in this episode? What took them so long?

Amelia Pond appears to be a future presidential head, to be honest. Without a helpful DVD commentary, I dunno whether it can be classed as an intentional reference or not.
