Is a year going by a preset defined number like 365 days, not counting leap-years? Because that just raises further questions.

Hasn't this already been asked?  I don't recall what the math was on this.... but clearly the timer was keeping track of time slightly different from society, and so there was almost an extra like 14 hour period for Fry.

The company had programmed the cryo tubes to open on the beggining of the day that would be 1000 years in the future hence the opening of the tube and the Cryo employees entering at that exact moment with thier ominous welcome.

Because this is a show (not based in reality) and you can make it do whatever you want.  It is not meant to be over analyzed.  Now I think I am going to go back to watching the Matrix.
Wow, I wonder how they are able to jump so high?

I think maybe when the aliens of unknown origin wiped out civilization (twice) that the building in which the tube was held lost power, and the medieval people that sprouted from the rubble could only recalibrate the timer on the tube so close to it's actual time. They did the best they could, get off their backs would ya?!

I think a better question then is, why was the cryogenics facility the only thing spared in that region? lol.

It was the only building without a helicopter pad on the roof, and to the invading aliens, the letter 'H' looks remarkably like first letter of 'destroy' in their language.

Maybe we need another game, the Best Explanation thread. Dibs.

Fry got frozen at exactly 12:00 pm, New Years 2000.  That's when I think he got frozen.  Then he got unfrozen in 2999 with the year 3000 being the next day.
