No, your opinion is wrong, sorry.

Most Zoidberg-focused episodes turn out bad, yes. But Zoidberg is by far and away the funniest member of the crew usually.

Zoidberg is a doctor. And not a very good one at that. Though he managed to successfully put Fry's head onto Amy, and other things. This thread seems quite pointless (to me), although I'm sure there's some others think the way you do. However, I don't, so I voted "no".

And he is possibly one of the funniest characters on the show, if not the funniest character on the show depending on one's opinion.

Also this thread's name is quite confusing, Zoidberg isn't useful or at least very little which makes him great.

In answer to the thread title question: No, Zoidberg isn't useful. That's the whole point of his character and that's why he's funny. In answer to the poll question: No, I don't think any of the Planet Express employees should be "cancelled of the series".

I agree with Cyber Turnip (except for the part about most Zoidberg episodes turning out bad), you're opinion bad and you should feel bad!

I think Zoidberg is a useful character!  He's really funny and I like how he's the butt of all the jokes sometimes.  After all, the show does need a doctor, so why not have a funny and incomptant one?

So, no, Zoidberg should not be killed off!

Zoidberg is awesome, ever since the movies Zoidberg has been one of my favorite characters. I liked him before that, I just gained a new angle on him. He is hilariously pathetic.

Zoidberg provides comic relief. He works together with the crew to make a cohesive whole. When you take one character out of that whole and make the show focused specifically on him or her, you lose that interaction between characters that makes their dynamic work.                                                                                  Why did "Why Must I be a Crustacean in Love" work while "Thats Lobstertainment!" didnt? Well there can be several answers to that but one main reason is because the other characters did not get forgotten, including the last climactic fight scene with Fry. I am obviously aware too, being a Star Trek fan, that the episode (like many, actually) is a reference back to Star Trek, this one being Amok Time but it youre a fan I dont need to tell you that obviously. However when I first viewed the episode and later watched it on the dvd I had not seen Star Trek ever and the episode was still hilarious for me, so there had to be something working for it besides the obvious reference. A third reason this episode could have worked better was the blunt notion of mating because who wouldnt want to see an episode about that, but i believe what kept it going was the interaction between characters. In Thats Lobstertainment! we lost that interaction, Fry and Leela were nearly forgotten, Bender had his own B storyline but wasnt interacting with the main characters.                                        Why dont all those spinoff shows work, where one of the main characters has their own setting? Even if the show was rated number one it doesnt change the fact that you lose that interaction between characters.

I didn't find "Thats Lobstertainment" to be that boring of an episode. I actually do enjoy it a lot. I understand the main characters were not as involved. Look at its this way, Calculon is hilarious. Watching him make a movie was hilarious, and then you had Harold Zoid being crazy. Then poor Zoidberg trying to be an actor. I just never looked at as, o this is lame without the other characters. It was something different that I found refreshing. I liked it, but I know I am the minority.

Well, most episodes, books, movies, etc need a conflict. To say that he causes problems and should be kicked off the show just because they made a few good episodes with his character. Your being ignorrant, without any problem in an episode is boring and Futurama would lose its viewers.

Didn't care too much for Harold Zoid. Love Hank Azaria, but that character was not that funny. There's funnier ways to go about depicting an old seemingly Jewish lobster :laff:

I just liked Bender's repeated "Hit The Deck!"s

Me too, kind of like the repeated "Abandon Ship!"s in "Parasites Lost".

As for Zoidberg, he shouldn't be kicked off the show, he just shouldn't have full episodes dedicated to him, as those are the most bashed by the fan community on a regular basis.  I loved him as the detective (with degrees in murderology and murderonomy, mind you) in AoI, the bit parts fit him much better, where a joke can be thrown in but not dwelled on.

Agreed. Episodes centered primarily on Zoidy could get a bit too much.
So, no, Zoidberg should not be killed off!

The Zoidberg-Hermes conflict is pretty funny in early Futurama. Don't know if I've seen that with new episodes...?

Last time I can remember seeing it is in "Amazon Women in the Mood", but it may have occurred later.

You might argue that Hermes' "no part of you should be a comedian" in "That's Lobsertainment!" may be a continuation of it.  But we really don't see this conflict explored further.  Maybe they just forgot.

Zoidberg himself is my favourite character on the show.  Because the key to Zoidberg is that everything he says is funny.  Regardless of what it is, it is funny coming from him.

I'll admit that zoidberg is quite annoying sometimes, but for the most part hes funny, and even if he wasnt it is just plain wrong to take anyone off the show!

and for the record, Zapp Branigan is the worst character, and BTW, he still contributes to the show!
