Scene in Insane in the Mainframe

In the scene where Roberto and Bender were escaping and they jump into a boat, was that supposed to be a parody of that movie, "The Defiant Ones"?  Or maybe some other movie?

I always thought it was just a little joke saying the two were too heavy to ride...But maybe..

i like the plane bit, the plane takes off, the plane does the loop-the-loop back into the barn again. cool!

The boat jump seemed like a reference to something, but I always thought it was even older than The Defiant Ones, something used in "chase" movies even since the silent days.  Was that really the first use of that trope?
