This has been bugging me ever since I first saw the Futurama opening sequence.

Why do the hovering traffic lights (stop lights) ROTATE when they already have colored bulbs facing all four directions and the streams of traffic flow only ever seem to meet each other at right angles?

Enquiring minds want to know!

Because the future is inefficient.

Also, it looks cool, and opening sequences tend to a) reflect the show in some sort, and b) look cool/draw the viewer's eye.

also statue of liberty is holding a raygun in the opening but is constantly seen with different things during the show, maybe it gets updated every month?
