If bender was a bending unit why would he;
Have a beer (and other things) dispenser,
Speak Penguin,
Have an 'Antenna',
Have a fully working toilet,
and many other things (i haven't seen all the episodes yet, there downloading, please add the others)

simply, extras, Bender is a Bending Unit, but he has a life, and robots in the 3K year aren`t limited to their duties, i mean, they aren`t working 24 hours at day, or 12 and the rest of the day in standby mode, also, it can be extras added by himself for diversity functions or need.

he has also:

"oxigen masks for underwatter operations"
"magnet or something to walk in the walls"
"cheat unit" (add-on?)
"coffe dispenser" (temporaly add-on?)
"water hotter" (the same as above)
"cammeras" (3)

and many other things that many other members of this Forum will post.

Well, let me add this:

"He has also got a grill (When Aliens Attack)"
"When speaking of the cameras, he has 3 videocamera's and also one for picture-taking (When Aliens Attack)"

That's like asking "Is the Beta Romera (or whatever it was called) a car?"  I mean, it had a toaster, a martini maker, a vid phone, and lots and lots of eagle.  Can't a manbot have a little luxury?

If you mean in "Bendless Love", it is not magnets (BTW he is allergic to magnets), it is "sucker feet" (can you say that?  ?).
If you look at the others feet, they have black little rubber thingies on them...

His ass can be used as a flotation device!
I quote him from A Tale of Two Santa's:
"I wasn't programmed to steal Leela's purse, but that didn't stop me!"

No, hes only 'alergic' to them if they are on his head. In The Cyberhouse Rules at the end he sticks the picture up on his body with a magnet. But i do agree he would have had sucker feet

yeah, like that,

The "Beta Romeo" is the parody of the "ALFA ROMEO" italian cars (very good cars BTW)

Well in "the series has landed" Amy pick him with a magnet on his body, not on his head, but, maybe the magnet is so powerfull that afects the head also....

Bender also has a tape recorder, as seen in A Head in The Polls. His mouth dispenses the cassette, and his eyes signal 'play' and 'stop'.

it's not his brain, his brain can be copied to that disk, and his brain was eaten by Enos, and you didn't even notice the brain loss.

i know that the disk is not his brain ,is a manner of speak ,
if you read "3001 "Final Oddisey" or "The hammer of god" from Arthur C Clarke, you can see in those books the entire memery of a inteligent computer (HAL for example) could be copied to another twin computer and the result should be the same machine with same memories (for example, if you copy the brain of Bender to another Bender Unit body the result should be Bender on another body isn`t? )

nahhh, forget the brain, and forget the copies, in fact forget all

I may be a "durtbag", but I think robots might have a basic operating system completely lacking charisma or character (think Bender without his in-your-face interface or John Ashcroft at any point in time).  I also assume robots (artificial intelligence-based robots) have a sort of psyche that is based on life experiences just like a human.

so what futurama's missing is basically some sort of technobabble like star trek has to explain all sorts of stuff in a scientific way (or a way that sounds scientific at least  ;)), right?
