If Hermes hates Zoidberg so much, then why in an "Xmas Story" did he sell his hair, to buy Zoidberg combs?

Sorry if this exists somewhere else.

At first I thought this was going to be why Hermes just doesn't fire Zoidberg. That's another valid question.
I don't know why. Spirit of the season, I suppose. Hermes isn't as inconsiderate as he appears.

Well, I think that deep inside Hermes does even love Zoidberg. A little hint is given to us in "Spanish Fry". Zoidberg invites Bender to join the night in Zoidy and Hermes' tent for a little "just friend" spooning.

Few month ago there was a disgusting, though realy cool fanfic in the Fan-art/fic board about a story like that.

Wasn't that episode before it was shown Hermes hates Zoidberg? I'm not sure though. But it was probably just for the holidays.

No, the whole "Hermes hates Zoidberg" thing was introduced in Hell is Other Robots, which took place the season before Xmas Story was made & aired.

But yeah, he probably bought gifts for everyone, and considering combs are very cheap, it's actually a somewhat mean gift when you think about it. I don't think Hermes even knew Zoidberg bought a wig, I think he was just trying to give him something he couldn't possibly use.

Plus I don't think Hermes knew about the "just friends spooning" beforehand.

But Amy sold her hair to buy Hermes combs.  Amy doesn't hate Hermes.

That is a very good question, i'm sure he could talk the professor into it somehow.  What with the professor being senile and all.

Amy doesn't hate Hermes, Hermes can use the combs, thus, she's not doing it out ot hatred. I belive the joke was, Hermes being mean, Amy being nice, Zoidy being nice, but the one getting tricked ended up the only one with use for the combs.

The professor being senile is the reason Zoidy is still there, he's a horrid doctor.

I think Zoidberg and Hermes have a secret homosexual relationship in which they have wild office orgasms!

That said... Hermes probably wants to be completely professional, so he shrugs Zoidberg off in public.

Planet Express is probably required by law to have a doctor on staff.  Zoidberg is the cheapest doctor they could get.  Hermes likes saving money more than he hates Zoidberg.

Yeah, Hermes was definatley spooning with Zoidberg, too, so it raises some serious questions. I think they may have a little something going on close to the end of the season, as gross as any kind of relationship with Zoidy may be. Can't deny he's cute, though.

I think Hermes would have to atleast see the Prof before he wanted too fire Zoidberg, he seems too like Zoidberg quite a bit, I mean he is the Profs oldest friend or something.

Maybe the fact that our notions of modesty are gone by the 31st century means that "just-friends spooning" has become perfectly acceptable behavior for two people (or one person and one giant alien lobster) who hate each other.

Zoidberg and the Professor friends?  He told Fry he was weird because he wore sandals, I don't think they're friends.

Not that Bender would actually care enough to know, but I think he was working from a script.

Sandals might be weird in the 30th century; it just shows that the Professor has slightly close-minded views on footwear.

I have to say that my prognosis of the comb/comb/hair situation, is more of a parody, making fun of the situation seen so often in tacky sitcoms, IE somebody sells his boat to buy something for his friend's car, who sold his car to buy something for the first guy's boat.  It's a situation seen in X-Mas episodes of far too many sitcoms, which is why I think it was made to be a parody of those situations.

It's actually making fun of the story "The Gift of the Magi"... if you didn't already know that.

If Hermes and Zoidberg did have sex, wouldn't Zoidberg die? Also, I don't think Hermes has the correct apparatus to accept Zoidberg's male jelly.

Oh yea. Zoidberg would die, but I guess that wouldn't hold Hermes back from "loving" him.

In case you haven't read OC James' fanfic
Love in the Reflection of a Glass Window in Eternity, you realy should!
A brilliant story covering this exact topic  :D.

If I was going to give a cruel gift like combs to someone with no hair, I wouldn't sell my hair to buy the combs, especially if I hated that person.  If they needed a third person, they could have used the professor.

I would give him combs...  But I would put traces of LSD on it, so he absorbs it through his bald head (assuming he had no hair)...

Zoidberg is obviously nice, since Santa gave him a Pogo Stick, which Zoidberg later used to defeat Santa.  The moral of the story, don't leave your best friend alone with your girlfriend, even if that best friend is you.

I don't think Helmes hate Zoidberg. Maybe he likes to pick on him because he is one of those people you can walk all over them and they will put up with it like Butters in SP.

Yeah, Poor Zoidberg, too bad the show didn't last long enough for us to see him stand up for himself.

Zoidberg- Take this Hermes!
*Zoidberg rips Bender's arm off and beats Hermes to death with it, then turns the arm on Bender, knocking him out the Planet Express window*

I have a question about Zoidberg in The Parabox episode, why was the other Zoidberg blue?  They explained all the other differences, like why the other Bender is gold, why the other Leela and Fry got  married, and the other Professor got his scar, but they don't say why the other Zoidberg is blue.  Did he flip a coin too or something?

also why the sky is rainbow swirly colored, why leela's hair and fry's hair have changed color, why the boxes are different.....the list goes on.

Maybe the blue Zoidberg bought a new shell out of a catalog while our's flipped a coin and decided to stick with his old one?

It's a real life genetic mutation in lobsters. Possibly one of Zoidberg's ancestors flipped a coin to decide on which male to mate with, and the one she chose in Universe 1  had the Blue gene.
