I've expressed my opinion. Nominating me is a waste of time. Nominate Inanimate Carbon Rod instead!

The rigidity of Josh's thinking is offensive. Gopher done an extraordinary thing in setting up Unpeel so quickly and effectively, surely exceptions can be made to the granting of awards!

What are others thoughts on this?

Rigidity? This has nothing to do with me just strictly wanting to follow the rules just for the sake of following the rules! I DO think gopher absolutely deserves an award...in fact I personally plan to nominate and vote for him as Most Valued PEELer when that comes around.
I only state the fact that it's against the rules because I know one of the MODS will enforce that rule.
But the reason I don't think anybody should win POTM twice is because they don't need to! Gopher has won POTM, why does he need a second one? As much as he deserves it the most, it's not extremely important that the award go to him just because of that reason. Poster of the Month is described as being an award for the poster who was most valuable during that month. However, I think what it has become (and believe should function as) is an award that recognizes a new deserving valued PEELer on the board in general, one at a time each month. That's why I continue to nominate Edel, even though she hasn't posted in lord knows how many years. Even though I wasn't around when she posted here, I know for a fact that she was an extremely valued poster, and having spoken to her several times in #fc, I can see why. She hasn't won yet, so I feel that she should be recognized.
And besides, gaschief, if Gopher should win POTM a second time because he's done such a great thing for this board, why on earth don't we have mArc win every month? He PAYS for the damn thing!

I'm not at all angry because the rules are being broken at all. The main reason I like the rules is because it means someone new will get to be recognized each month! And the fact is there are TONS of PEELers who currently deserve that recognition who haven't yet gotten it. If you try to get somebody to win like That other wicked guy, for example, you're setting us back a month in being able to recognize one of those actual deserving people with an award. You may not think one month is really a problem, but obviously if we broke the rules once, it would open up a huge debate as to what degree we'll be able to break rules in the future. More things we'll be allowed and more months will be wasted.

I know POTM isn't the most important thing in the world, I'm not stupid, even if it may seem like I'm treating it that way. I'm just typing all this because I'm bored, to be honest.  :D
But I do really like the tradition of POTM even if others think it's overrated, and like when a new PEELer is recognized and congratulated and the such. I'm sure it makes them feel good about themself, even if only to realize a second later what they actually just won an award for.  ;)

Speaking of PEELies, my three POTM nominations haven't voted yet. Go, now!

Masty, thanks for the nomination (my 1st ever, except for the "most whiney n00b" award mid-last year, which I still deny exists).  I already voted (I'm the 3rd post in this thread, on page 1).  I didn't know about UnPEEL myself; if it weren't for a return e-mail from Juliet, I wouldn't have known about it's existence.  So, don't feel slighted.  Gopher did a great job with it (like I said before, it was like a home for orphans while PEEL was down), and deserves a big thumbs up.  Maybe enough to overcome your anti-vote...maybe?

I think if this is truly supposed to be who everyone wants to be POTM then it should be. If however it's too sacred and important and so fragile that it would crack into a million tiny pieces at the slightest touch then perhaps the moderators should just pick PotM. Because obviously our opinions don't matter.

(that said I am just bitter that I'll never win even if I was the only person left who hadn't won one.)

While I agree with some of your issues, Josh, I disagree with your take on what POTM is. To me, a poster of the month should have been just that- a poster in the month in question...

Therefore, since I have not exactly been paying attention this month, I will not nominate until I find one of more posts I that I estimate as qualifying.
