The award didn't specify that the avatar had to be a new one for 2010.  I don't know what the award next year would specify... even if such an award exists.

My epic avatar was changed in 2010, and if this award exists for 2011, I would like to think it should still be eligible.  (I'll have to get it updated with the afro and goatee though)
