Ooo. Mikey. Burn.

I don't think we really need a new mod, it is not as if the spam on this board is out of control, and really, there has to be some leniency.

I've never seen anything as bad as this!

futuramafan123: For starting a pointless thread, and using it as a chatroom
Steal It Up: For using a pointless thread to complain and use it as a chatroom
ShortRoundMcfly: For thinking he's not a noob anymore, when he's been here only a month.
BENDER RULS 124: for double posting... then editing them both.

supprised though that Spacedal didnt say something spammy like "this thread will be closed" or something in that thread.

I think DavidA would make an awesome moderator he's so evil and efficient at the same time and also he's somehow memorized what thread have been done and all the rules are stored permantly in his memory banks.

It'd be like Nix to a whole new, more evil and cool power.

EDIT :Damn my stupid fingers.

Sorry it won't help my case if n00bs agree with me. It'll kinda have the opposite effect. Thanks though. N00bs can't really agree cause I'm basically sticking up for them. But I am greatful.

And you know LoveforFry, you might not think that your idea for a thread is bad but than it could be the most stupidest thread on Peel. :p

What? Are you out of your goddamned mind? If we get a new Moderator, we need somebody along the lines of aslate. He knows his shit (most of the time), and has a nose for the sweet sweet sticky things that make up the honeycombed core of PEEL. But not aslate. It would make him a bad person. Absolute power corrupts, and all that.
There are a lot of users here, and over 99% of them would make terrible Moderators. The ones we have are (with one exception) doing a bad job well.
A new Moderator would need to be vetted very carefully, and be seen by all to be fit for the job. A new Moderator needs to be an arsehole with only a rudimentary sense of what is right or wrong, with no compunctions about doing what is right for the board/forum/thread/post/user base/individual at the cost of the individual/user base/post/thread/forum/board in that order. They would need a keen sense of irony, a cutting wit, the sense of humour that normally is confined to the likes of morticians and executioners, and yet the sense of a great responsibility, and a willingness to act accordingly. Our current Moderators (again, with one exception, and it's a different one this time) have these qualities. Mostly. Could we really be sure that another would embody them to the same standard?

There are two fairly new people who I would consider nominating for the post of New Euro/Australian Moderator if we held an open discussion. There are also two older members. There's a fifth, but that one lives in the US.

That's out of perhaps a hundred and fifty regulars.

There's only one Moderator that I'd want cut from the current PEEL pack, and I'm not saying who. Suffice to say that it's a great poster, but a poor authority figure.
Let's not all jump in here and start saying "so and so should be a mod... so and so should be a this or that... so and so should be sexually gratified by a tarantula..."
These are ideas that don't work. If we were to have changes made to the overall Moderation of the board, they would need to be carefully thought out and far reaching. Just like the appointment of a new Moderator would need to be very very painstakingly looked into. PEEL is a delicate balance, and we shouldn't be so keen to upset it.

All we need is for the current crop of Moderators to pull their fingers out, and start cracking down a little. For instance, there's a lot of spam in the last few posts before this. It should be weeded out. Let's not forget (Mods included) that a Moderator is working not just for the board admin, but also for the members... and that such authority (once given) needs to be excercised and honed.

Let us also not forget that to rule, sometimes one needs to use an iron fist, and sometimes one needs to use an iron fist wrapped around a steel bar. PEEL is becoming too unruly of late. We need to reclaim our board from idiots and spamtards... and the Moderators need to spearhead this.

I propose a new initiative. To paraphrase George W Bush...

total's too kind.  I can think of four current mods who should be booted off the mod squad for one reason or another.  Unfortunately I can also think of only two people who I'd consider suitable replacements, although both are European, so it'd balance things out a bit.

Well, there's that whole "delicate balance" thing. PEEL needs stability, and certain Moderators are a symbol of stability as much as they are useful. In at least one case, more than they are useful.

Just to elaborate, the names of seven mods come to mind, four high-profile and three low-profile.  The three low-profiles should relinquish their mod status (if they haven't already) because they aren't active enough members either to be effective mods or symbols of stability.

Of the four high-profile mods, one is both useful and a symbol, one's useful but not so much of a symbol, one's a symbol but not a very effective mod, and one has neither quality.

well, I thought you'd say something stupid to my post (and was right), but didn't think you would actually go through with it and try to make me look dumb. But you did. So I edited my last message (what I was going to put there before, but didn't untill now).
How can you talk anyway? your one of the first to respond to doomed threads saying something pointless like "this will be closed" and some ignorant reply with it.
Or this. Now I understand why your a 'Professor' when you only joined in late March... Do you consider yourself a nOOb by chance?
one more for the record. I was nice to you, and didn't say anything bad to you in that link.
So before you go thinking I'm crying in a corner, giving you a life story (by complaining about others... don't know how thats connected) just stop next time... save that brain of yours from comming up with lame come-backs.

now that its 3am (which could explain this post) I think I'll go to bed now.

If people want to bitch about the way the current mods are doing their job email mArc about it, it certainly doesn't make the job any easier to have certain individuals constantly whining, there is an easy solution if you don't like the way PEEL is being moderated, set up your own board and run it yourself

I haven't seen any degree of regularity of posting from Drippy, bart182 or Kryten in a good while. I certainly don't see the necessity to keep them with moderator status, or prove me wrong.

As for the regularly posting mods, I have my disagreements but on the whole I think they are doing a good job. As moderators.

The test thread should be renamed to something else like "Announcements", the clever thread titling needs to stop as it causes more problems than good, and also couldn't we amalgamate the birthday and peeliversary threads into one? I mean I see nothing but spam (relevant spam, but useless nonetheless) in the aforementioned threads. There's only so many ways you can say happy birthday to someone... Hopefully this would give the thread some focus and avoid the old escape clause of the test thread only being for spam anyway. If it's spam it doesnt belong anywhere. If it makes you sound like a retard it probably doesn't belong here either.

Yeah I do tell n00bs the stuff they should know. But in those 2 you had (not including mine) I didn't say one mean or hurtful thing. And if what I think is giving some advice is a bad thing than I won't do it anymore. But Dr.Z, you were complainning like a little kid that goes "Mommy that kid talked to me."

And I was also pointing out that n00bs and or anyone else makes mistakes with threads and yet there you go off like a bomb.  http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/1-003304/  Here is a bad thread. And *gasps* look who responded although it got closed! Ok? You do it, I do it! We ALL do it! Have I made myself clear? Or should I just shoot myself for even trying to explain!?

Tnuk had some decent things to say as well as Tweek.  We don't need to be pointing fingers at eachother for stupid reasons and picking a new moderator has been proposed time and time again, if you want it so bad email marc and slimmy, but stop redundantly squeeking to eachother in threads that don't need it.

This may be a complaints thread, but it's meant for actual compalints concerning how PEEL is running, not complain and bitch about your neighbor...
And for the record, the people who incessantly talk about n00bs are in fact n00bs themselves....

Spacedal, I'm tired of arguing with you, so after I get my last words in, I'm finished with this pointless argument...

  • First, if you had actually read my post without trying to explain yourself right away, you'd notice I didn't say that you say mean things.
  • Second, where are you getting that I'm crying or complaining like a little kid? I'm simply pointing out a bad thread that struck me as funny (seeing 2 people chating in a thread).
  • Third, how am I going off like a bomb? This is the first time I've ever complained about someone elses posts.
  • and Final, go back to that link you posted, and check the dates... (double gasp) I was less than a month old to this web-site.

ok? quit thinking your holier then thou, with your "Have I made myself clear?" and "Save me your life story" speeches. Grow up and quit thinking your not a nOOb.

edit: (for winna) I realize I am a nOOb still. I'm trying to point out to Spacedal1 that she is a nOOb too.

I move that the word "noob" be stricken from the PEEL vocabulary due to that fact that everybody goes Librarian-poo whenever it's mentioned.  Why does it matter/affect anything how long a person has been posting?  I'm tired of the flamewars that occur when people start thinking with their registration date and not their God-given brains.

Plus, the word "n00b" is most often incorrectly used here on PEEL. Generally what people mean when referring to when they say "n00b" is "newb".

Everybody is a newb at some stage. Newb simply refers to the length of time someone has been posting/how long they've been well known. It makes no comment on their posting ability or etiquette.

Conversely, n00b is a derogatory term, as denoted by the use of l33tsp33k (which is a crime that often, though not always, a n00b is guilty of). It is entirely possible (almost entirely on boards other than PEEL) for someone who is not technically a "newb" to be a "n00b".

It actually angries my blood a bit when I see the constant misuse of the word "n00b", because it's insulting to newer members, a huge majority of whom are (or develop into) good posters.

And as Nix said, registration dates are irrelevant, not least because often people lurk for a while before actually registering, so they're actually meaningless.

Everyone listen to Jicannon.  Yes, people can call me the bumper of PEEL if that makes your day, but like Jicannon says, my bumps are relevant and not meaningless.   ;)  That is what separates me from the other bumpers who bump for no reason.

I just love using the search engine and looking up old threads.  If I have something relevant to say, I post something.  If I don't, then I just let the thread be.  One thing PEEL should do is encourage people to use the search engine more.
I've seen dozens of repeat Threads.  There must a few repeats talking about the Futurama soundtrack.  I just notice that the thread that features just Matt Groening's interview with Entertainment Weekly. The Matt Groening interview was already posted on a few threads.

The main problem I've had with your bumps are basically the way you do it. You do it so casually, like you're under the impression that a conversation that happened two years ago is actually happening now. However, the amount of threads you bump in a timespan has decreased, and you're not saying nothing when you do it, so I really have no problems otherwise.

Well, I do find FFSoR bumps annoying somewhat, but it's better that he bumps old threads rather than post new ones.  I'm proud of his ability to use the "search" function.  n00bs could learn from that.  (of course, I don't think FFSoR's a n00b anymore..)

Well, I don't think you can tell people not to bumb threads, no matter how old they are (as long as they have something logical and relevant to the subject to say).
It's a Catch-22 situation to say don't bumb threads because they're old. You get yelled at if you bumb an old thread; you get yelled at if you create a new thread with the same subject as the old thread- then your shown a link to the old thread.

If you bump a useful thread, contribute to it, and point out that it is a bumped thread, you won't get yelled at.
It's only when people bump 3-year old spammy threads for no reason that they will get yelled at.

While making pointless threads and spamming are worse than incorrect spelling, this isn't a chat room. People have time to at least try to spell.
