I agree most of it is moaning and flaming rather than real complaints, if something is so bad you want to complain hit the alert button. I'm closing this for a while, it might get reopened it might not.

Actual complaints can go in here, and not in the rant thread.

Wow, back from the dead. Cool deal VF.

I'm wondering if there should be some sort of formal warning system here. I try not to go over the top when I'm critizing, but ever since I started posting here, I've felt like I'm going to get banned. Because I do just that, go over the top. So maybe this could be a way to let me know when I've gone too far? Have I even gotten any warnings yet?

I agree, I think that if some of these newbs that get banned had gotten a warning or two after some of their "activities" through an Email they might have stopped.

They allready do. mArc send them all an email warning them they're stepping dangerously close to the line.

Anyway in most cases it's not a permanent ban the first time. Usually it's one week, with an advise to reconsider their behaviour. Some people just doesn't learn.

Case in point: Britz. mArc continously warned him to stop flaming/trolling, both on the forums and (I'm sure) emails. When that didn't help he was banned for a short period. He said he was glad to be back on PEEL when the period expired and would make an affort to stay within the rules. I think he was perma-banned 2 or 3 weeks later.

I think only 2 or 3 people in my netire time have been insta-banned, but in those cases it was fullblown trolls.

I've banned a few people who made about 50 threads in an hour, because I figured it was the best/only way to make them stop. When we ban people mArc knows and he can unban them.

I think it's best that warnings and bannings (both rare, as far as I know) aren't usually made known to the public. For privacy and other reasons.

Age is not an excuse for bad posting. When i first started posting, no-one guessed my age. When i first posted in a "What's your age" thread, and said i was 13, no-one thought i was that young!

I agree 100%. I used to be a chat regular back when I was 12 years old and I typed using real words and sentence structure. I used to go into Yahoo Games and people I was playing against in checkers would think I was 30 when I was about 13. If you can't type when you're 12 years old, you're not fit to be at a board.

I don't think he's doing that on purpose...
he might live in one of those locations that don't think education is of value.
But I do agree he should learn to spell, and shouldn't create useless threads about random nothingness

Quit whining just because the kid can't spell, why not try to be supportive and help him, I expect he will improve. I remember when Nurdy first arrived his spelling was bad and some of his posts where less than meaningful, now he is a good poster.

Yeah nurdy was the epitome of bad grammar/spelling.  And he's like the top poster of all time now towering over other posters like a hawk... a hawk that plays BF and looks at anime....

I made a comment in the other thread that didn't seem to get followed up...

Can we have the test-thread back, please? I assume the answer is going to be a no, but i think that PEEL's been going downhill a bit recently, it seems to be getting a lot duller compared to what i remember. I think Otis agrees with me after reading his rant in the last thread.

Test threads rocked, they had a purpose too. When people could spam in the test thread, there was no need to spam elsewhere, thus reducing the spam amount. And besides, they were fun.

You're right, I do agree. It would be cloolsome to get them back. I know this is stupid, but maybe there should be some sort of rule for Test threads which stops any person posting more than 3 or 4 times per page. It was multi-posting that seemed to be a large kill off, for the last few Test threads...

Well, we need a test thread for general/random shit, but spam should be deleted from it if possible. Spam is a thread killer in itself. A thread full of spam gets old quickly.

Test threads are necessary for anything that deserves posting, but doesn't fit a topic, and doesn't deserve its own topic.

Now it's people thinking like you that get the test thread banned. It should not be used for Spam! No-where on PEEL should be used as a spam-hole. Instead you should use the test-thread for other, smalling topics. When i got back from holiday (During which the threads were banned), i had no-where to announce my return from holiday. It's that sort of thing it should be used for.

This gives me an idea. If it's a certain type of person who gets Test Threads banned, maybe the GPT-esque school of posters should have read-only access to anything with "TEST" in the title. Then the test threads would stay relatively pure. Anybody who spams the Test thread should be placed on the restricted list by a mod. Hows about it, eh?

I thought of something similar but then thought:
A) That seems a bit unfair to some
B) It's not really in the PEEL spirit
C) It's not implementable
D) It would probably kill the fun

Maybe we should retitle it "General Announcements" then. We could announce things like:
"[name] smells!"
"I'm back from holiday!"
"Sarge is dead... oh wait, he's not!"
"Don't go see M. Night. Shamamalalala's 'The Village'... it sucks!"
"Woo! I got some post today!"
Stuff like that, without the spammy parts.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't mind that there are no test threads.  PEEL's fine the way it is.  And, anyway, the rant thread is getting testy, anyway.

I'd rather have the test thread than the rant thread, that said it is mArc's decision as to whether to bring them back or not, till I hear otherwise I'll close ant test threads that get started.

What's wrong with the rant thread? With that thread it's much easier to stay on topic. Testing something in spam in itself, so even if you post on topic, you lose.

The "Drinking Your Neighbour" thread (now closed) was too. I think PEEL is building up an excess of test-related material in non-test places... might be time for a new new test to flush things out. Like message board Drano.  :p

Yeah, and there was plenty of it gushing out in the last two posts of this thread before mine.

In any case, I believe we shouldn't call it the Test thread, as that's a name that really doesn't seem to fit the general idea of the thread. People were suggesting General Announcements, that's not bad...if you want to make the thread title sound like a coffee shop, it could also be something like "The Little Things"...but there has to be one out there. I'm with aslate on this one, I'll push for it as well.

I don't think the Drink Thy neighbour thread was becoming a spamfest, and it didn't need to be closed....it's like the PEELiversary thread, somehwere to say congrats to people being here a certain amount of time....

Now I have nowhere to congratulate Slacky on his new rank....(you rock Slackjaw)
