UBB is nice and all but i find it a bit ugly and lacking of surtain features. Features like user tracking, global post lists (most recently used, posted, moved, etc)

This is not an "OMG, we got a BIIIG problem here!" request. It's just a suggestion, so don't have a cow, man.

We've had people ask that every now and then, but I currently can't do it.

Well, you buy me some time and fend off all the troublemakers in case we can't convert everything (threads and accounts could largely work, links in threads most likely not) and also get us a database then we can talk again.

You could always create a 'translation' table, containing the UBB thread ID and the whatever-new-hopefully-open-source-forum-software you use, and then in the old CGI-BIN, put in a 404 error handler pointing to a perl or php script that will redirect the user to whichever thread they were looking for.  It seems kinda messy though.  I'd like to see an improved Avatar Shop that is mostly automated (I started writing one here which I could finish, just the UBB way of doing things is inefficient from what I've been able to figure out so far.

Well there are a couple of free mysql hosting servers out there (incase you didn't know), and also converting all that stuff can be done by some forums... like Invision Board, or phpBB.

Let me check:
* Checking..................... .......
* Confirming................... .......
* Going to toilet....................... ...

Done!

Ok, so this is what i got. Invision Board does not convert from UBB. However, phpBB does!
Even found a howto post on the phpBB web-site on howto convert UBB 5.x into phpBB 2.x

http://phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=70989&highlight=ubb+5+45b

I hope you convert, and I also hope I helped =)

Also, phpBB 2.x could just be the middleman. I know alot of forums that's got a phpBB2ThatForum converters.

I've played around with phpbb2 before (peel.gotfuturama.com exists) and also thought about translating links by tweaking the conversion module to get a 1:1 table, but we'd have to change servers (since external mysql servers for forums are really lame and most of these are on the other side of the world seen from PEELs current server) and I don't have the time at the moment anyway. I'd also have to get a working phpbb2 layout done. Had one looking like PEEL and removing the features I didn't like, but that one mysteriously started going bad after I didn't touch it for a week.

So, don't get your hopes up now or for the next 2 months.

hmm...
Well i'll fend off all the complainers if it happens! So take shield behind me as i take the blame! Also, http://peel.futurama.com  needs user and pass... which probably is intended and sensible.

mic and nero wolfe are you here only to complain? IRC network is bad, system is bad..

i think current system is fine as long as it works. also, i don't want PEEL to look like another cheap php board.

About the only feature I miss with UBB is the ability to search all forums in one move (and for that I use Google), other than that I don't see what advantages there could come from a new forum software.

Besides PEEL is lightening fast (even for my 56k modem) where as all the phpBB boards I visit are as slow as cold molasses.

I think PEEL is great the way it is, I'm also on a 56k modem and it is rarely slow. It might be nice to be able to search all the fora at once but to be honest it is rare that it isn't obvious which forum needs searching for a particular thread.

There's a diffrence between complaining and requesting, if you haven't noticed.

One more thing I've noticed with UBB is that it doesn't change attributes globaly to fast. Take's some time before the board "get's it".

While we're at it, where's that cup holder that Fred asked for?

Also, is there any way that you could add a feature that would allow PEEL to pick up my dry-cleaning for me?

I guess it was a mistake to give Haliburton that contract, and pay them in advance.
