Recently we've had a lot of younger people (SuperFry being the youngest) joining PEEL.  Meanwhile the 20s and 30s PEELers are still talking about sex and swapping dirty jokes.  The ultimate was all that cunt stuff in the love thread last night.  If SuperFry's parents somehow saw it, they'd have grounds for getting PEEL shut down.

Maybe we ought to think about having an over 18s only board to talk about this kind of stuff.

In addition, we need more moderators.  I'm not taking a shot at any current mods here, but there was a six hour period last night where I hardly saw any of you online.  My candidates would be Teral, Melll and aslate.

The real thing we need to wonder is how SuperFry managed to find PEEL...

I for one have heard a lot of dirty jokes before, it's nothing new and can't corrupt me any more, so an over-18 board would make me feel left out. The only problem we're having is SuperFry alone being here.

Maybe we need to get rid of him...

I second the nominations.

18s only board? why not just ban all 'dirty' people ?

1.  Marc has already hacked away at the UBB coding for this board to allow the number of moderators it currently has.

2.  We've been over this moderation and semantic crap before.  It's not as if PEEL has never had young visitors before.  The prospect of two parents "shutting down" PEEL is completely absurd, the worst they'd do is pay for their ISP's child-lockout service to block "questionable" websites until he's old enough to learn how to hack around it.
3.  An over-18 board would do no good as people would still act the same as they would in any forum, one who dreams of that kind of moderation and context is surely mad or does not understand the basic principles of the internet.
4.  Marc and all other moderators will agree with me on this: It's not worth getting all fussy and politically correct over.  Don't let your panties get too bunched up and we'll all be fine.

In that case take mod powers off someone who's never here and give them to someone who is.

I act totally differently here than I do on other message boards, and I wouldn't be surprised if others did as well.  However I AM mad, so...

I was 13 when i joined PEEL, and i found the threads thoroughly amusing. I didn't find them offensive, but if i did then i'd just avoid them.

We have such a small minority of PEELers that are under 12 i don't see why we should change our ways to suit them. It's not like they are being forced to read anything here and it's their choice to enter the masturbation threads (Ok, the other was slightly off-topic in the love thread, but isn't that to be a bit expected?).

If you really want to be politically correct, you can put a disclaimer in the TOCs about certain threads being suitable for over 18s only, but no-one ever cares about them anyway.

Of course all the people under 18 are going to think it's a bad idea...

Like winna pointed out (even though he's not a member), we do still have the R-rated forum, even if hardly anyone uses it anymore.

Censorship never works.

I only have to say one thing about "Censorship" and "adecuacy"...

When have they EVER worked? i challenge anyone to tell me when has censorship produced good results, or even results for that matter. Plus, this is a message board, if I (17) can sneak into a porn site, so can many other underage people. Plus most (if not all) teenagers know perfectly well (and frequently use) words like fuck, cunt and stuff like that (my family taught me those when i was 5, in spanish of curse).

I do have another suggestion, shouldn't threads that got closed because of spamming, already existing or being generally useless be deleted? i don't know if it'd help with bandwith or cost stuff, but it'd surely help lower the page count on many forums.

Yeah--there's no point in the R rated forum if 20 year olds like me can't get in.  :p

However--I'm really not interested in a board that has posts of a bunch of porn and nudity anyway. That seems like something people UNDER 18 would be more interested in.

Kids suck. People should quit catering to them and maybe they'll go dig some holes outside or something. Make some mud pies, Ninos, we want to get our freak on

The only reason you think I am a problem here is because I tend to dig into s ex-related stuff so I will try to stop doing that and you guys will probobaly not worry like this.

If my parents saw some of the stuff on PEEL they just wouldn't let me get on until I was 11 which is in about 1 month.

Whatever, like there isn't enough porn and violence on the net (and on real life) to get some crazy kid sick enough to do any kind of atrocity (assuming that the media has that impact and it's not just a scapegoat). Anyways, what's the big fuss about porn? is sex worse than violence? because i don't see anyone here suggesting  a ban on violent/gory pics as well (although i haven't seen many do far).

...on what grounds? You don't shut down a porn site just because an eleven year old could get on it...

there's a difference... porn site asks/tells you "are you 18 years old?" or "you can't enter if you're not 18"  - it has a warning, so if kid goes there - it's not their(webmasters') problem. kid is the one who breaks a law.

As margie's pointed out, this isn't a porn site.  I could explain me reasoning further, but I think I'm talking to a collection of brick walls here.

Back on track, what would a special forum solve? i think marc said specifically : "If it needs a disclaimer, it doesn't go on peel". So that pretty much kills the idea

Are you talking about the R-Rated forum there? Since it's invite-only it doesn't matter.

Also, if you really want to be annoying and actually care about the fact that some fanatical mother may actually attempt to try and shut down PEEL then just add a very small disclaimer of:
"You should be over 18 (or 21) to view PEEL"
or
"PEELified.com is not responsible for any of the material posted"

Okay, the over 18s board was a bad idea.

But I stand by my point about reshuffling the mods so there's a better balance across the time zones.

I agree, we need more mods. Sometimes, the board and chat get out of control and there's no mods available. Plus, i think the ones that are available are overwhelmed and too busy.

Since SuperFry's computer had a parental control that won't let him type sex and girl and damn and fuck and all the other nice words most people can use freely.
