Kyle_M thanks you did a good job but when I had this before as my avy the colours were the same as the original....yours is ok but if I could get it darker that'd be cool....

Yes, I was wondering why your first avatar of spacedal11's dog looked so weired.

The trick is quite simple, improve the colors before you resize the picture. PSP has many effects to make the colors look better.
Then after you resized it to 64x64 and decreased it to 255 colors, check whether it is too big. If it is decrease to less colors with the "decrease to x-colors (4/8 bit)" tool.
Try some values below 255 and check if it gets below 3.4 kb.

As long as it meets the specifications(gif file, 64x64 pixels, transparent, etc.), then get your avatar and go to the thread in Offtopic, put it in there, ask to have it uploaded to custom, and wait until Slimmy is raised from the dead to upload your avatar.

If you want to have something avatarized, you can post a picture and have someone do it for you, but keep it clean, you know?

Agreed. Meh-ish, because there are better ones, but also some much worse.

Wowser! I was looking for a picture of Bender with headphones. Stumbled upon this forum for the first time and what's the first thing I see here?! Now what are the odds for that! After all Bender doesn't have ears so why should he be wearing phones in any pic 

Also if there are other pics of Bender w/ headphones or somebody remembers an episode in which Bender is wearing ones, I'd appreciate.
