I gave my go at making a few avatars, I think they look cool. One of them's even Futurama related:





Now there's just the issue of whether or not they're transparent.

Go to the Join The Avy thread. Post the avatar with the text Upload to Custom in bold. That will mean that no-one can steal it, and so you don't need the SAL text there.

I have a question: how much (if any) animation is allowed in an avatar?  I don't think I've seen anybody with an animated avatar, but I think mine would be just thaaat much better it the Professor was actually doing the motions of wiping his head off...  if I could fit that in the size limit. Anyone know?

No animation is allowed in avatars, and even if there was, it would almost certainly take an avatar above the 3.4KB limit.

Edit: Just out of curiosity, in an animated GIF, does it save each frame in it's entirety, or just the pixels/areas that change (or is that best left to something like Flash?)

Well, your current avatar is 2.5KB, adding just one or two frames would surely take it over the limit. The reason for non-animation is it will be/is annoying. Siggys are ok with minor animation because they're not posted everywhere.

Paintshop Pro (PSP), Photoshop or The GIMP are main applications that can be used. Irfanview can make avatars transparent.
