Set it to be my personal avatar, please! A little bit of originality to go with my posts... [Monty Burns]eeeeeeexcellent.[/Monty Burns]

Maybe later if I get tired of it I'll send it to the pool for others to enjoy.

Look around a Simpsons Message Board and borrow one, or better still join a Simpsons Board if you want one of their avatars.

Its the one I use on Treehouse and I drew it myself...

Just curious because everyone seems to be doing the Simpson-y thing.

I've made a first attempt at making a few avatars.
My main problem, I think, is they tend to look rather jagged on the outline in my best attempt to remove the anti-aliasing.
Anyway, here they are - what do you think?  :)

Do you copy and paste the avatars from the episode? The best way is to scan the picture, then crop and resize.

Don't bother. I tried that for a while and it isn't worth the effort. The anti-aliasing doesn't show up on screen anyway.

Pretty good avatars nonetheless  :)

Yes, I took a framegrab of a good shot and used photoshop to remove the background.
What do you mean by 'scan'?

On the offchance that Drippy_Taco looks in this thread: Please check the Avy-ators Playground thread. Many people have put add to pool in their posts, and I don't see any of them in the pool.

Is there a scan tutorial out there for Photoshop 7.0? I'm not good with image programs... i rely on paint for most things.

I've made baby jesus cry a lot of times, and some of my avatars are pretty good.

um... photoshop... you get a framegrab... lock that layer... trace/draw over it with the pen fill it in... delete the original picture. save as transparent gif

Cool, thanks for that.
However, two questions:
How do you avoid it anti-aliasing when you resize down to 64x64? If you leave bicubic/bilinear on, it anti-aliases (effectively), and looks crap against anything but white, but if you pick nearest neighbour, all your lines vanish :/

Second - is there anything wrong with using the clone stamp to color in the area inside the lines with the original shading etc?  :)

I'll let someone who knows what they're talking about answer that question. I use the framegrab method (and I have made some pretty good avatars, thank you very much!) and just found the link in another thread.

When i scan my avatars/scan i:
Blow up the image really big (1000%)
Fill everything (including BG with off-whiet colour)
Cut + Resize
If i've saved it as a gif in the meantime i use Shift+Ctrl+0 (PSP) then resize it.

If you're doing it on a near black colour, i suggest grey.

Like aslate said. The anit-aliasing won't show up on PEEL if you pick the right colour. (Check out some of the PEEL avatars to see what I mean).

If you're using good quality framegrabs. Distortions may show up on bad quality ones. It's quicker to just pick up the colour from the original frame grab and paint bucket it a couple of times (to fill in the gaps). At least, that's how I do it in Photoshop.

I have no idea how avatars work, but whoever makes the ones for peel, could you make some based on the latest pisodes, like The Sting, TFP, and THBB?

Hil, take a look at the "Avy-ators Playground" thread in Off Topic. Quite a few avatars based on the new episodes have been made, and I'm working on a few more for THBB right now.

Say, can anyone help me with an avatar?  I got no idea how to do it, but I'm in a turf war with another Truman and I thought maybe if someone made a crate of canned eggs as an avatar...

It's in Roswell That Ends Well, btw.

If someone can come up with a framegrab of the crate of canned eggs from Roswell That Ends Well, or better yet, an avatar, by tomorrow morning, they can have my turn at the trivia challenge on the General Discussion board.

Quick question: Can avatars be animations instead of still-frames? I only ask because I happened upon an animated custom avy from long ago that is apperently owned by member #11.

No, animated avatars are not allowed.

Reed's avatar originates from before mArc took over, back then animated gif's were allowed.

One crate of Canned Eggs coming right up.

As far as I know, that is one of the 2 animated avatars on PEEL. 1 even belongs to a member who never posted.

I wouldn't recommend animated gifs either. They get annoying real quick.
