You forgot to mention that everyone need to have that option enabled by the avatar czar or another staff member, since the ability was abused by a lot of members, it is now limited to those you specific ask for it.

I've seen people saying that you can use your own custom avatar, but on the "Forum Profile Information" page, there's no option that lets you upload your own picture. Am I missing something?

We also have some very pleasant and very skilled avatar makers on this board - if you post a larger picture they may well fine-tune it for you. But that's all academic if winna hasn't done the whole permission thing.

Academics are the first most important part!

Check out this link ToShredsYouSay: How you get a custom avy.

The avatar you have requested is too jaggy.  You can either learn how to make smoother images, or follow the advice of others and possibly get someone else to make one for you.

By and by, I don't hand out the option until the user proves they understand the custom avatar rules by first providing an example of their first new custom avy.  I do this, because after I give one the option of using custom avatars, they can basically go hay wild after that.... in which case my powers become all but futile, and an admin will have to step in and beat somebody down.

I was in jail; I bonded out.  I apologize that that incident was publicly broadcasted on here.  That was over a month ago I think.....  time is fuzzy to me.

To be honest, the offenses I went to jail for were hardly of any concern: traffic warrants for non-moving violations and failures to appear before court (the latter putting them into warrant status).  Then I was at the wrong place at the wrong time (or maybe the right place at the right time... eh eh?) and the policemen scanned my record and hauled me off.

I should have sat in jail.... for about 3 to 5 days..... then I wouldn't have to worry about the tickets.  Unfortunately my girlfriend watched me get arrested and escorted away in the back of a cop car.... so she worried all night and contacted anybody and everybody she knew to help me out.

Totally my fault.... something that's been riding on me for almost 2 years.... maybe 3 now.

Oh, I didn't get arrested in Minnesota this past weekend either despite being a belligerent drunk asshole, in public and in front of police no less; I think I qualified for Biggest Jerkoff in Minnesota that day.

No problems. I think that technically the thread for commissioning the creation of new avatars is here. This is thread you come to ask the powers that be to make your account capable of using custom avatars.

Not happy with either really, the hat doesn't look as right as it did with the bigger image and the new hand for Bender is blocky.

When I saved it to work on it, Firefox selected BMP as the filetype.

Here's a go:
