For some reason, I got this message when I tried to upload UndeadLennon's avatar: The following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:
The avatar you have selected is too large, or not an avatar.
So, I guess Jezzem wins by: d) fault. Cheers though, UnrealLegend. Shame on You.

I'm not sure what the issue was with your UnrealLegend. They're both png files (though maybe you have both edited your posts) and Jezzem's is actually larger in file size. 9kb is pushing it on the file size by the way, but since it's a png (and therefore better quality) I don't have a problem with it. Also, I prefer Jezzem's attempt. Notice the contrast is better on the outside lines. They both do an excellent job of not being jaggy and following the rules though. I'd appreciate to know the exact processes you both used in your attempts and approximately how long they took. Scanning things in takes me a really long time, and then I have to tweak to get good results. Edit: Btw, the envelope on file size for anybody curious is approximately 20kb. It's not a hard limit, but anything over that will almost definitely asked to be removed. Animated avatars are not allowed on PEEL by word of mArc. 10kb is probably the soft limit on pngs, and approximately 6kb is the soft limit on gifs. No other image formats are allowed on PEEL. If they're found, they'll asked to be removed (first by me, and I ask first and I explain why I'm asking), and then they'll be forcefully removed if I don't receive a reply or if someone disagrees with me. If the infractions continue, a discussion that you won't be aware of will take place without your knowledge, and continuing infractions will accrue other punishments and loss of privileges both temporary and permanently. I don't know what those punishments are because we've never had to use them. Just in case anybody was curious. PNG as a format can support animation. Most browsers do not support the animation part of the file format though. If nobody notices the guidelines are being broken they probably won't contact you. I always contact you first if I need something changed. My browser supports viewing animated PNGs. If it's obvious, you will be contacted immediately, and it will be removed very quickly. Just in case anybody was curious. Also, don't ever refer to this spoiler, or it will be removed and denied. Don't spoil things for everybody else.

I ask about things like these, and I really prefer excellent avatars to okay avatars because I have always planned on one day making a fighter game (PEELer Kombat) using PEELers avatars. If they aren't excellent, I will have to redo them, and if they're stupid I won't want to use them at all. This is also why I prefer people not to switch avatars often, because when you do it shifts your identity slightly. We get used to who you are through your avatar. I was planning on making the game in Flash. I have had thoughts about either developing it natively in HTML5 or porting over afterwards. I may also after releasing an internet public version develop a standalone desktop version. The internet public version will also be built modularly so that I can expand the roster (and possibly levels) at the request of PEELers. If it's successful, I may release some of the source code and release the desktop version with tools to expand the game by the players. Once I build the engine (haven't done that yet, spent years thinking about it and learning techniques I will need to do it), I'll probably ask for help in creating the library of assets I'll need to make it good. I'll also ask for input from PEELers about who to include in the starting roster and the secretive roster and possibly short stories that represent PEEL for the story mode. I may or may not include multiplayer capability and it may or may not be local or online. I'm capable of doing everything for the project by myself, but my time is limited and I'm not necessarily capable of doing everything for the project quickly. This is due to the fact that I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I don't wish to release half-hearted shit that doesn't represent the game I've been playing in my head for over half a decade.
Monster_Robot_Maniac, I'm not going to make an avatar for you of the thing you requested. I want to make an avatar of the thing you originally requested (skeleton zoidberg) and I want a copy of that picture. I'm asking that you add the original picture back to your post. Someone else can make the other avatar for you if they feel like, or you can ask for help making it yourself (I'm not going to make that one, especially not anytime soon). You can use any of the three for your avatar and I'll enable your ability to use custom avatars once I see the one you want to use and that it fits PEEL's guidelines (doesn't matter which one it is, it's your choice). Your current avatar fits your username well, and it's unique and we all see you when you use that one. That's pretty much all I have to say on the matter. Edit: I figured all of those things were true that you've now said to begin with. Including the rush job. Rush jobs are okay if nobody is doing them because we're all busy with a lot of different things. Rush jobs aren't the best, and we want to represent our best selves on the internet. I appreciate your effort because I hadn't gotten around to it yet. Also your effort probably made Jezzem think, "Hey, I can do that! I can do that even better!" and it challenged him to produce something else. Competition is great, and I love seeing it when everyone is equally balanced. We work together to be the best us we can be, and that's why we're awesome. One last question.... what was the original ratio of your original drawing? I'm just curious. Thanks for the quick response and the excellent effort by the way.

I prefer that as well, and Beamer's Pelican was admittedly a bit of a rush job.
To be fair, the source image was hardly high in quality. You and Jezzem both did a fine job given the request.

Can one of you please xplain what you mean by 'scanning' images instead of creencaps to make a new avatar?

The simple rundown:
You take a screencap, then you make a new layer over it and trace the lines. Then you make a new layer in between them, and you paint inside the lines with colors. Then you delete the bottom (original) layer, and now you have a clean version of the image you wanted with a transparent background.
The most important part is getting crisp lines that have high contrast at any resolution (especially low ones like 64x64). When I used to do this a lot, I used Flash to create a vector version of the image I wanted, then resized in flash down to the native ratio I wanted, exported it, imported it into irfanview and picked the background color (couldn't export transparency in flash then, you might now, or maybe because I was exporting gifs.) for the transparency.
The Gif format doesn't support true transparency and it doesn't support the alpha channel (color blending by percentage). It cheats and uses one of the colors in the palette as the default transparent color (if you pick one). Gif format only supports like 255 colors in the pallette. PNG format supports like 12 million colors (that number may be wrong, but it's a ridiculous million numbers or so), has true transparency (irfanview can't export transparency data, but it's great for gifs), and can handle alpha blending (hence the 12 million colors).
That's probably way more information than you needed, and most of it probably doesn't make sense unless you're a graphic artist. If you want to learn how to make avatars get a copy of photoshop (somehow) or just pick up the gimp, and try scanning something. Get a feel for how to add and delete layers (it's different based on the program) and learn how to use bezier curves. You can paint the lines, but using line tools like bezier curves makes a huge difference... and then you can handle resizing and saving in the program you're using. When I use GIMP, I don't export... I do everything in GIMP (I blur the lines before resizing, hence my current avatar has a blur to it, although I did that on purpose and used a lot of dodge. My old avatar that I made only has the blur on the lines and it looks great) and then save the file as a 64x64 png and I'm done. GIMP's bezier curves are hard to learn well, and a good line tool is hard to come by. In contrast, Flash's line tool is the best I've ever used, it's simple, it's quick, and by far way more important, it's fucking intuitive. You have to learn how to manipulate the curves, but you'll pick it up in a day.
I haven't used Photoshop in a long time, so I can't say how it handles everything, but I know for a fact it can handle doing all of the work.
URL and Jezzem didn't make scans. I knew what URL did... I was surprised what Jezzem did. They just erased the background, made it transparent (or deleted it first to leave transparency), resized it and saved it.
Jezzem's avatar is as good as any scan I could make.
Hope that was helpful and informative and answered your question.

So much info O_o, I use photoshop and it's awesome line tools. I've had flash(last week) for a day or two but something happened and my pc didn't like it. I did use it tough and I'm suprised about the excellent line tool in flash, but it didn't work very well with my drawing tablet(I don't have a mouse). I've used gimp for over 4 years until I discovered how to crack photoshop on YT. Anyway, now I know what you mean by scanning I was really thingting about the scanner that's with the printer but I didn't really know why ^^'
