Umm, I wish someone had told me about this thread before.  But now that I got a new rank, I plan on going easy on the posting.  I can't post 400 things in a day anyway.

Why not? Others have managed it.

#1 What? 400 in a day? Without the posts being considered as flooding or spamming?

#2 Admit it: You rely on newbies to keep the forum alive.

#3 A little idea, and no, don't immediately think of me doing this:

Making a new thread only for yourself, or maybe for other people also, and putting it full of spam posts, to get your # total posts up in order to achieve a higher rank.

a)What is your opinion on this? Is it cheating?
b)Would you allow it?
c)Do you think this a brilliant idea?
d)Have you had this before, and if so, what happened, was the person banned?

If somebody started a tread and kept posting in it just to get promoted I think they should get their post count reset to zero.

#2: Agreed. I never claimed anything else.

#3:

a) What would be the point of that? Ranks are a cool little touch, not the point of the board. You only be cheating yourself. You'd spend the time making the posts (remember flood control), noone would read them and they would just be superflouos.

b) Someone tried it once. Made a thread called "Going for Urban Legend", but gave up due to flood control. The thread was closed the minute a mod laid his/her eyes on it. I can't find it, so I can't say who it was.

c) I think "The Testening", and it's siblings are adequate for our spamming needs.

d) See b)

Going for Urban Legend is probably beyond me.  I rarely think of more than two interesting things to say per day, so it'll take years to get there posting sensible messages.  And I'm not sad enough to sit at my computer all day posting hundreds of one word long shitty messages just for the sake of beefing up my total.

It's only during their mating season. The rest of the year they're fair game.

Edit: Good thing I caught that myself. That happens to be one of Edel's pet peeves.

I didn't really know what thread to ask this in, and I didn't think I should make a new one for it. Anyway, I was wondering, if a moderator deletes someones post, does that mean they lose a post on their post count as well?

Oh, I thought they did... I coulda sworn it was said once that your post count goes down one everytime you get a post deleted.
Guess I was wrong...

Nah, I experimented in the "Hot or Not" thread and kept my eye on my post count as the ever-vigilant VF and D_T deleted the off-topic riff-raff. No loss in count, though 10 of my posts got deleted.

I think only admins can lower (or raise) peoples posts counts, that was certainly the case at CRU.

Yeah post count is counted by the soul number of messages submitted to the server.

If deleted posts counted against you, futurefreak would still be a Liquid Emperor.

well, I can set them manually, just deleting posts doesn't as it would be too much work to check through a 30 pages thread for all the people who posted and then decrease their count when deleting a thread.

If deleted posts counted against us, I'd need several posts to reach the rank of Poppler!

Actually I haven't had that many posts deleted.  My speciality is thread homicide.  I've probably caused more threads to be closed than any non-mod on PEEL.  (Although sex_man is doing his best to catch up.)
