You can have a Rocky Horror avatar if it follows the avatar rules; the avatar rules can be found on the wiki.  The avatars that come with PEEL are only futurama related and will remain that way.... FOREVER!

Feriam, you now have the ability to upload and use a custom avatar.  Go into your user profile to enable this brand new ability!  Also, you can change your avatar freely in the future, but be sure that any new avatars follow the guidelines (as found in the wiki).

I managed to do this. Might not be good enough. But I tried.  

EDIT: On my avy problem: Maybe I will have a go at drawing myself. Does anyone know any freeware/shareware that I can use to try. Paint just won't cut it for this particular purpose. Can also be Mac.

I'd recommend Inkscape for drawing shapes.  GIMP is more about the 'handfree' stuff, while Inkscape focuses on shapes and structures.  Both free applications.
