all you do is erase the edges of the pictures you want, past them in a transparent background 64x64 and then save it as a gif.  photoshop is easy to get!  It's not hard work at all, I actually think it's pretty fun.

edit:  Due to people misjudging me for the fact that I have my avatar set as it is, I have no other choice but to change it (on my own discussion.

No, I call it Adobe Photoshop CS4 Exntended .  And thanks fir making fun of my avatar I spent all day working on, I guess I'm not cut out to make avatars, and using my own avatars I've made myself.

Your previous avatar (the baby one) would be fine on other boards, I'm sure. But we have a semi official rule that says they should be cartoony. No offense meant.

That wasn't the issue. Why would I complain about a non-cartoon avatar [looks at own avatar]? The edges were atrocious. It didn't look like a Photoshop job at all, and if he had spent all day working on it then he should've spent a second day. The new avatar also has some ugly edges.

Well, the new one is certainly an improvement on the old. And I'd say your avatar is in keeping with the general cartoony feel of PEEL avatars, despite not being a cartoon.

Truth is, GrimLock, we're all a bunch of picky bastards when it comes to avys (having been spoiled by the likes of Tricky) and we wouldn't have it any other way.

My technique, which usually gets decent results, is to crop in gimp and scale in photoshop. Also .png images are often much nicer looking and since we're allowed files up to 10kb you might want to redo it in that file type - it's currently only 0.83kb so you have plenty to play with.

Well I've worked out a few new ways to better the edges with gifs, and I think I've got it. So most of my avy's will be back in gif format, unless I have to have it as a PNG for some reason...

Looks like a browser issue, mArc. Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox all show the avatars, IE just shows the grid with the names, category and maker.

Sorry, but I don't know how to take a screen shot on a PC.

Yah, ie has a known dislike for the png format last I checked; gave up using it a while ago myself. Dunno the details, some png features are unsupported tho, which is why gif hasn't died yet
