Josh: I would try my hand at making yours into an avatar, but the software I have (MS Paint, a trial edition of Microsoft Digital Image, and something called "Serif" that only makes .bmp) doesn't allow me to do the transparent backrounds. B_F: I tried my hand at resizing your image for the 50x50 avatar size you wanted. Here's the result: C'est bien?

Josh: No problem, glad I could help. here ya go. The basic process is simple enough. Guessing blindly as to where your confusion lies, if you load a jpg, first you have to add an alpha channel. I do this by going to layers (ctrl-L), right-clicking on the image layer, and selecting "add alpha channel." If you don't do this first, you can't have transparency in the image. When you've deleted the bg, you just have to save it as a .gif, since .jpg does not support transparency and will fill transparent areas with the current background color (usually white). I did it for you this time, but keep working with Gimp, you'll get the hang of it

Could someone please make the background in this transparent, leaving only the character and the chair? I've got some ideas for working on my own avatar, but I need a full-sized image of just him. No hurry, though. I don't actually have any plans for it currently, but I know that I eventually will.
