I have a suggestion- more stringent policing of the rule against spamming doomed threads. It happens constantly, and it's beginning to really get my goat. Sometimes it's pretty innocuous (i.e. "This will probably be closed/ moved" ), sometimes it's vitriolic and infantile ("fuck u n00b u shud dye for makeing this thread!!!1" ), but in either case the only purpose it serves is to boost the spammers' post counts, and, more annoyingly, to keep these stupid threads at the top of the thread lists. I suggest that posting in obviously doomed threads should be limited to, at the most, one (1) politely worded reply (and I don't mean one each) pointing out why the thread will be closed/ welcoming the newbie to PEEL. Once this has been made everyone must clear off and leave the thread to sink into oblivion/ closedness, or risk being banned for a length of time dependant on how offensive their reply was and whether or not they are a repeat offender.

Wow, the debate that has never graced the sight of an internet message board.  I'm pretty gay for thinking of typing I guess that was a little mean but....  Anyways...  Also apparently I'm retarded, or so I was just told having been.  No, I am not editing anything else, in fact fuck that I'm not using the backspace...

Anyways... shut the fuck up about the goat cheese damn it.  We've had this discussion before about how people do their thing to spam up other threads that don't have the right to exist and to dance around the lock or what have you.  Thing is, there's not a whole lot that can be done about that except that the people who are already moderating these threads to tell people to stop.  People are going to post no matter what, and it's difficult to discern what is truly a quality post, since you want posts to begin with; believe me, mindless chatter is better than no chatter at all.  I'm not going to suggest for a moment that you didn't have a right to make this thread and that it doesn't matter what you say about whatever, because that's wrong... obviously you had something to say and now you have, but this is how it works:  people will post crap if they feel like especially in crap threads (try to avoid these if at all possible), mods will eventually close these as need be.  On top of that your suggestion for what to do with bad posters isn't easily applicable, and that's why we don't do it (it has been suggested before); I'm actually glad you had a suggestion, you could have just whined, but you had something semi-logical to give as a conclusion for your rant.  On to the explanation, the reason we can't semi-ban people is because of the code this board runs on.  5 people (if I remember correctly, the 2 admins and 3 uber mods) have the ability to ban people at all.  The code PEEL runs on is now pretty old relatively speaking almost obsolete, it has even been hacked to the point that it manages today.  Now we have 5 people who can ban (they can't set ban times, where a ban only lasts for so long either, they can just ban), but on top of that we only have, and anyone correct me on this if I'm wrong, 2 people who can unban, that being the 2 administrators.  Here's where things get even trickier, people aren't nearly as active as they used to be, including several of the people who were mods here and especially the administrators themselves.  I myself find it difficult to contact either marc or slimmy, and I'm sure everyone else does as well, so basically if the ubermods ban someone (and 1 of them is far less active than he used to be) there's a good chance they won't be unbanned for a very long time.  I suggest you don't get on either Nixorbo or VelourFog's bad side, that is, if you like posting on PEEL.  :D

speaking of dead thread spam...shouldn't this be in the Few Questions/Suggestions thread?

bottom line is, harrassing n00bs is an old PEEL pastime. you might as well ask us not to read comics or have acne. poor n00bs don't see it coming either...if I ever join another board in the future, that will so be me heh
